The Bessie Awards Announce Presenters and Performers

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announce the lineup of special guests for the 33rd annual Bessie Awards. The ceremony, hosted by performance artist/entertainer Shernita Anderson and American Ballet Theatre principal dancer James Whiteside, will be held on Monday, October 9, at 7:30pm, at NYU's Skirball Center for the Arts. Doors open at 6:30pm for red carpet and pre-show celebrations.

The Bessies Announce 2017 Lifetime Achievement, Service Award Honorees

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced today that Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, choreographer and founding artistic director of Urban Bush Women, will be the recipient of the 2017 NY Dance and Performance Award for Lifetime Achievement in Dance, and writer Eva Yaa Asantewaa will receive this year's award for Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance.

Spelman College Glee Club Joins Dance Theatre of Harlem at the Cobb Energy Center

The Fox Theatre and Cobb Energy Centre are excited to announce Atlanta's much heralded Spelman College Glee Club will be joining Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) for two live performances on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23. Supporting DTH for the first time with a live backing vocal performance, the Glee Club's seventy-five (75) acclaimed singers will accompany "Change" choreographed by Dianne McIntyre, a former Spelman College Distinguished Visiting Scholar. The group will be performing Two Negro Spirituals: 'By and By' arranged by Roland Allison and 'Don't You Let Nobody Turn You Around' arranged by Dr. Kevin Johnson, director of Spelman College Glee Club both nights.

GroundWorks DanceTheater to Re-imagine Carmina Burana This July

Returning to Cain Park's Alma Theater for its fourteenth annual summer series on July 15-17, the innovative and award-winning GroundWorks DanceTheater will once again present an exciting and eclectic program bringing audiences face-to-face with fresh, fascinating performances of passion, intellect and humor. They will present an expanded cast in a spectacular new adaptation of Carl Orff's timeless classic Carmina Burana. Also featured on the program will be a world premiere work by award-winning New York choreographer Adam Barruch.

Baryshnikov Arts Center Sets Fall 2016 Season

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces the fall 2016 performance and residency series, which runs September 27 through December 16. BAC Presents will bring to BAC's stages World and U.S. Premieres of works by international music and dance artists. Tickets go on sale August 15 and can be purchased online at bacnyc.org or by phone at 866 811 4111. Throughout the season,BAC Residencies will provide critical support to nine artists across disciplines to develop new work in BAC's studios.

Dance Theatre of Harlem Coming to Cobb Energy Centre, 10/22-23

Returning to Atlanta for two public performances, Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) will grace the stage at the Cobb Energy Centre on Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, July 8 at 10 a.m. Tickets will be priced from $79, $59, $49 and $29, plus applicable fees, and will be available online at www.Ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-735-3000 or at the Cobb Energy Centre Box Office. There is also a student field trip performance on Friday, October 21 at 11 a.m. Reservations for this performance can be made at ArtsBridge.org.
