Philadelphia Theatre Company Announces 35th Anniversary Season

Philadelphia Theatre Company kicks off its 35th Anniversary Season with something new and festive as the organization celebrates its roots with the entire month of October dedicated to new plays to begin its 2010-2011 season. The season also includes the multiple Tony Award winner The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee with music and lyrics by William Finn, the Philadelphia premiere of Anna Deavere Smith in her one-woman, award-winning show Let Me Down Easy, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined by Lynn Nottage, and a fourth play to be announced.

Philadelphia Theatre Company announces that two-time Tony Award-nominee and film actress Kathleen Turner will star in the world premiere of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins by Margaret Engel and Allison Engel. Directed by award-winning director David Esbjornson, this one-woman play based on the writings of the late political journalist Molly Ivins will take the slot previously slated for Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck. 'Red Hot Patriot' runs through April 18, 2010.

Back by popular demand, Philadelphia Theatre Company will present Chicago's legendary comedy theatre THE SECOND CITY from July 13 - 25 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets).

Philadelphia Theatre Company Extends LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA Thru 12/13

Responding to the popular demand for tickets, Philadelphia Theatre Company is extending its production of the multiple Tony Award-winning musical, The Light in the Piazz, until Sunday, December 13. Performances for the extension week will follow the current schedule, with shows on Tuesdays at 6:30, Wednesdays at 1:00 and 7:00, Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00, Saturdays at 2:00 and 8:00, and Sundays at 3:00.

The romance of Florence comes to life on stage as Philadelphia Theatre Company continues its 2009-2010 season with the hit Broadway musical The Light in the Piazza with book by Craig Lucas and music and lyrics by Adam Guettel on November 13 - December 6. Directed by Joe Calarco, the ensemble cast features Whitney Bashor, Sherri Edelen, Joe Guzman, Ken Krugman, Kyra Miller, Fran Prisco, Matthew Scott, and Maureen Torsney-Weir.
