The legendary Barbra Streisand was honored by the Recording Academy as the MusiCares Person of the Year on February 11 at a dinner and concert. Their new and seventh recording, Sophisticated Ladies, opens the latest chapter in Quartet West's historic career. With Sophisticated Ladies, bassist and bandleader Charlie Haden brings to light lesser-known tunes delivered with refined improvisations that are equal parts romantic, classy, elegant and alluring. The New York Center of Photography and the Moving Image (NYCPMI), the newest addition to New York City's museum and cultural landscape, will present an exhibition of new and never-before-exhibited color and black-and-white photographs by photographers Ryan Paternite and Richard Conde featuring some of the 20th century's greatest jazz musicians in performance on the legendary Birdland stage.

According to the Toronto Star, stage and screen star Jane Krakowski has been added to the line-up of Toronto's BlackCreek Music Festival. The event wil be held at Rexall Centre on the campus of York University on June 4.

Beginning on June 4, 2011, with Placido Domingo in concert, and with such renowned artists as James Taylor, Diana Krall, Tony Bennett, Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones and the London Symphony Orchestra to follow, the new BlackCreek Summer Music Festival will launch its inaugural season at the Rexall Centre on the grounds of York University in Toronto.
