Shubert Theatre Box Office Opens For New Musical MEMPHIS 8/24

The Shubert Theatre box office (255 West 44th) opens Monday, August 24, at 10am for the original musical MEMPHIS. The Shubert Theatre box office will be open Monday through Saturday s from 10am to 8pm, and beginning September 27th, Sundays from noon to 6pm.

Full casting was announced today for MEMPHIS, an original Broadway musical, opening Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Shubert Theatre (225 W. 44th Street) following critically-acclaimed and sold-out engagements at La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. Previews begin on Wednesday, September 23, 2009.

With the massive influx of musicals based on movies (or even worse, TV shows) lately such as 'Young Frankenstein', 'Shrek', 'Legally Blonde' and the upcoming '9 to 5', 'Catch Me If You Can' and 'Spider Man', one might think that the original American Musical is dead (or at least on life support). But let's look at some other recent additions, 'In the Heights', 'Wicked', and 'Spelling Bee'. These shows have proven to be wildly successful and give us all hope that we won't be reduced to 'Speed - The Musical'. And the show I witnessed last night gives me even more hope in that regard, 'Memphis'.

Sierra Boggess and her younger sister Summer Boggess sat down with photographer Peter James Zielinski to commemorate Summer subbing as the cellist in the orchestra of The Little Mermaid. Summer is a gifted cellist who made her Broadway debut this past April as a sub in various Broadway productions.
