Orlando is best known for its theme parks, but there's a new entertainment venue in town. With the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts opening this week, it will undoubtedly be a game changer for Central Florida performing arts community.

The Dallas Opera's explosive second production of the 2014-2015 'Heights of Passion' Season is SALOME by Richard Strauss (whose libretto was based on Hedwig Lachmann's German translation of Oscar Wilde's play). SALOME, generally regarded as one of the masterpieces of the Late Romantic Era, opens tonight, October 30, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in theMargot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center located in the Dallas Arts District.

The Collegiate Chorale presents the New York City premiere of Eric Idle and John Du Prez's Not The Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy) at Carnegie Hall, December 15-16, 2014 at 8pm.

Sex Today, Love Tomorrow with book and lyrics by Israela Margalit, music by Oran Eldor and directed by Obie Award winner John Clancy, with musical direction by Dan Green, will get an invite-only industry reading on Monday, November 10 at Ripley Grier Studios.

Tonight, October 24 at 7:30pm, Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street -- between Rivington & Delancey) will proudly present the World-Premiere presentation and Special Equity Showcase production of MAMA ROSE, a solo performance art/experimental play with music about Rose Waits, a woman from Buffalo who could have ruled the world if they had let her.

Music Director Leon Botstein opens the ASO's 53rd season by shining a light on one of the most fascinating partnerships in classical music: the marriage of Richard and Pauline Strauss. Despite the failure of Pauline's own musical career and the famously sharp-tongued barbs she often directed at Strauss himself, the marriage endured and Strauss frequently used their relationship as inspiration for his music. The works on this concert bring together rarely-heard music from Intermezzo, the opera Strauss wrote when Pauline accused him of adultery; the NY debut of Mark Bebbington in Parergon, a piano concerto portraying the illness of the couple's son; and Symphonia Domestica, representing 24 hours in the life of the Strauss family at home.

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is seeking an Orlando-based singer between the ages of 9-14 to perform in Broadway & Beyond at the Walt Disney Theater on November 15. The selected singer will make her debut in a solo number with an all-star, professional Broadway cast for the Grand Premiere of Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Presented by Dr. Phillips Charities and Balfour Beatty Construction. The show is under the direction of renowned Broadway producer Richard Jay-Alexander and musical director Mary-Mitchell Campbell. Jay-Alexander will host the auditions with leaders from the Dr. Phillips Center.
