National Alliance for Musical Theatre presents its 29th Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS, set for today, October 19, and tomorrow, October 20, 2017 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). The Festival kicked off yesterday, October 18, with its celebrated concert, The 46th Minute.

The Young People's Chorus of New York City (YPC), led by Artistic Director and Founder Francisco J. N ez, debuts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in the New York premiere of composer Ben Moore and librettist Kelley Rourke's Odyssey: A Youth Opera, an hour-long re-telling of Homer's epic. This new, fully staged and costumed production incorporates video imagery from the Museum's extensive collection including images of ancient Greek art and artifacts to create thematic links to the action on stage. The production is directed and choreographed by Eric Sean Fogel, with video and projection design by S. Katy Tucker. Three performances, presented as part of the Museum's MetLiveArts series, will be held at The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium on Friday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Well-Strung is a string quartet with a modern twist, playing classical pieces while singing your favorite pop songs. The foursome brings its unique sound to the State Theatre on Thursday, November 2.

Executive Director, Connor Deane announced today that the third annual BROADWAY SINGS gala would be held on Monday, November 27 at the historic Westport Country Playhouse. Broadway Method Academy is a non-profit musical theater-training program where young artists are linked with working Broadway professionals, both in the classroom and on-stage. The American Symphony Orchestra will open the 57th season of its Vanguard series at Carnegie Hall with a program titled The Sounds of Democracy on Wednesday, October 11 at 8 pm. All performances in this year's four-concert series - comprising three at Carnegie Hall and one at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall - will offer a timely political framework by examining the music composers have created under various types of leadership. American democracy was shaped by the ideals, vision, and principles of its leaders, particularly Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy. The Sounds of Democracy is an evening featuring works of American composers inspired by the legacy of these two presidents, who protected our liberties and stood by the common people against the interests of the rich and powerful. Sessions' Second Symphony is dedicated to FDR, Bernstein's Kaddish is both a Jewish prayer for the dead and a celebration of life, and Copland wrote Canticle of Freedom in response to the assault on civil liberties during the McCarthy era. American Composers Orchestra (ACO) announces its complete 2017-2018 season, Dreamscapes, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel, Music Director George Manahan, and President Edward Yim, featuring ten world, U.S., and New York premieres by a diverse set of composers. ACO continues its concerts at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall (December 8, 2017 and April 6, 2018) while expanding its presence in New York to include performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center (November 7, 2017) and as part of the 2018 PROTOTYPE Festival (January 12-14, 2018). ACO continues to take its commitment to fostering new work beyond the stage in its annual Underwood New Music Readings (June 21 and 22, 2018) for emerging composers, now in its 27th year, and through EarShot, the National Orchestra Composition Discovery Network, which brings the Readings experience to orchestras across the country.
