COMEDY CENTRAL announces its 'Best Bets' for Week of May 5!

Broadway veteran Stephen DeRosa currently appearing in HBO's Boardwalk Empire, and Mary Testa, whose Broadway credits include Guys and Dolls, Xanadu, Something Good, 42nd Street, Marie Christine, On the Town, Chicago, The Rink, Marilyn, Barnum and more, will be a part of An Evening of Firsts: Broadway's Finest Spill About Their First Time tonight, April 29th 7PM at Stage 72.

For the first time since 2007, COMEDY CENTRAL Live is holding three free comedy events to mark its seventh consecutive year partnering with the City Parks Foundation. In addition to the highly successful annual SummerStage comedy showcase in Central Park, shows will also be held in Manhattan's East River Park and Brooklyn's Red Hook Park.

Playwrights Horizons World Premiere of The Flick, a new play by Obie Award winner Annie Baker (Circle Mirror Transformation at PH, The Aliens, her recent adaptation of Uncle Vanya), opened last night, March 12. La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts continues its 2012-13 Programs for Young Audiences series with ArtsPower's The Little Engine That Could Earns Her Whistle, an original, new musical based on Watty Piper's beloved children's book, The Little Engine That Could. This 55-minute, song-filled adventure is recommended for audiences ages 4 and up. Performances are today, March 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The Flea Theater in association with Four Arts Media will present the next 4 plays of the AMERICAN SONG 13 play series. Following the previous four plays that brought us from the turn of the century to 1939, the upcoming presentations forge ahead through World War II and end after the cultural and political upheavals of the 1960s.

New Line Cinema has just released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming horror film THE CONJURING, set to hit theaters on July 19. The film is based upon the case files of married demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. "The Conjuring" stars Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the Warrens, and Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor as Roger and Carolyn Perron, residents of the house. If the Broadway revival of a few years back demonstrated the deadly results that can occur when overthinking and underplaying a quality farce, the new Paper Mill mounting is a fast a furious example of Ken Ludwig's madcap Lend Me A Tenor done right.  Director Don Stephenson doesn't throw any fancy curveballs with the material, but he and his perfectly cast company of Broadway vets nail every door slam and verbal ping-pong volley with hilarious aplomb.

The season begins with 1937, a year that witnessed the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge, the sudden death of George Gershwin, the Hindenburg disaster and a world on the brink of war.
