Firehouse Announces THE BALD SOPRANO Marathon

Firehouse Theatre presents Eugene Ionesco's anti-play THE BALD SOPRANO on a non-stop loop for twenty-four hours. Beginning Friday, April 21 at 7pm, each performance will begin every hour on the hour and will continue through Saturday, April 22 at 6pm, when the twenty-fourth consecutive performance will close the marathon. Six actors have accepted the challenge to perform Ionesco's absurdist masterpiece twenty four times in a row -- no breaks or intermissions. And, to make it really exciting, in each iteration of the show the six actors will rotate into different roles.

Since writing his first opera, SILENT NIGHT--the 2012 Pulitzer Prize winner for Music--with librettist Mark Campbell, composer Kevin Puts he has done two other operas, also with Campbell. This time around, he has a different collaborator: famed American artist Georgia O'Keeffe, whose correspondence provides the text of his song cycle, LETTERS FROM GEORGIA, commissioned for opera superstar Renee Fleming by the Eastman School of Music. It makes its New York debut on November 14.

"Art isn't easy," Stephen Sondheim wrote famously in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. Some artists, however, make it look simpler than others--like composer Kevin Puts, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Music for SILENT NIGHT, with Mark Campbell's libretto, for his first try at the notoriously difficult art form. (The Southeast premiere is opening at Atlanta Opera on November 5.) Easy? Well, looks can be deceiving.

Dr. Frank N. Furter and his wacky entourage return to New Hope, PA when The Rocky Horror Show comes to the New Hope Arts Center in New Hope, Pa. later this month. Presented by the Downtown Performing Arts Center of Lambertville, N.J. and Curtain Up Productions, performances of The Rocky Horror Show are scheduled for 9 pm on Friday, October 21, Saturday, October 22, Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29. Tickets are $22 online and $25 at the door. The New Hope Arts Center seats 130 so purchasing tickets in advance is highly suggested.
