Zaccho Dance Theatre to Showcase New Installation Based on W.E.B. DuBois, 11/1-3

Choreographer, director and Bay Area performance innovator Joanna Haigood will explore issues of race and identity in the world premiere of her new performance installation, Between me and the other world, Friday through Sunday, November 1 through 3 from 1 to 5 pm at Zaccho Studio, 1777 Yosemite Avenue, Studio 330, in San Francisco. A dynamic exploration of scholar and civil rights leader W.E.B. DuBois' concept of "double consciousness", the performance installation has been created in collaboration with composer Anthony Brown, media artist David Szlasa, scenic designer Sean Riley and performing artists Jetta Martin, Raissa Simpson, Rashidi Omari and Matthew Wickett, who together have created an immersive environment that evokes the identity duality experienced by many people of color. Cal Shakes and Intersection for the Arts Announce Selections for Triangle Lab's Artist-Investigator Project

California Shakespeare Theater and Intersection for the Arts today announced the Triangle Lab's selections for its Artist-Investigator project, a series of ten experiments to develop new models of theater making. The Artist-Investigator project seeks to support artists from a variety of disciplines-theater, dance, performance and visual art, multidisciplinary artists, and those exploring social practice-who are curious to invent, discover, or refine a particular way of working.

REDCAT, CalArts' downtown center for contemporary arts, presents the Los Angeles premiere of Alpert Award-winning hip-hop theater artist Marc Bamuthi Joseph and visual artist Theaster Gates' acclaimed collaboration red, black & GREEN: a blues (rbGb), a visceral and moving hybrid performance that merges incisive writing and urgent choreography to confront issues of race, class, culture and the environment. The four-performance run of rbGb will be presented at the Roy and Edna Disney/ CalArts Theater, Thursday, January 31 through Sunday, February 3, 2013.
