Today in 2003, Wicked opened at the Gershwin Theatre, where it is still running. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. Wicked is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.
The show celebrated its tenth anniversary on Broadway last year, and a slew of Wicked alumni attended the special event. To celebrate this day, BroadwayWorld is flashing back to WICKED's epic 10th birthday!
WICKED Returning to Atlanta's Fox Theatre in 2015

After breaking box office records and selling out in record time for its third Atlanta engagement in 2011, WICKED, Broadway's biggest blockbuster, will return to Atlanta's Fox Theatre February 18-March 8 as a special to the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta 2014/2015 series. Tickets for the return engagement go on sale Sunday, November 16 at 10 a.m.
Jennifer DiNoia Joins West End WICKED as 'Elphaba' Tonight

Today, Actors' Equity Association named IF/THEN the recipient of the 'Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway' Award for the 2013-14 theatrical season. The award honors shows that exemplify and promote the union's founding principles of diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity for all who work in the theatre. Emma Hatton Will Be West End's New 'Elphaba' in WICKED Beginning in February

WICKED, the smash hit musical that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, will soon welcome Emma Hatton to the West End cast, according to Whatsonstage. Hatton currently stands by as 'Elphaba,' and will take over the role when Jennifer DiNoia departs the production in February 2015.
WICKED Sets Lottery Policy for Smith Center Run

A day-of-performance lottery for a limited number of orchestra seats will be held for WICKED, which is returning to The Smith Center for the Performing Arts with performances from Wednesday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 9. Two and one-half hours prior to each performance, people who present themselves at The Smith Center box office will have their names placed in a lottery drum; thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for a limited number of orchestra seats at $25 each, cash only. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person. Lottery participants must have a valid photo ID when submitting their entry form and, if chosen, when purchasing tickets.
WICKED Adds Six Weeks of Performances to 2015 Hollywood Pantages Run
