The show will include songs by women songwriters such as Georgia Stitt, Marcy Heisler, Jonathan Brooke, Susan Werner, Patricia Barber, Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell and Dorothy Parker, as well as the title song written for Errico by Gopnik and Scott Frankel; and the New York debut of music by Jeanine Tesori. There is also a sprinkling of the classic American songbook by Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Sondheim & Mary Rodgers.

With the creative team of Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire at the helm, I had high hopes for the new musical 'Waterfall' currently playing at the 5th Avenue Theatre. With a pedigree like those two have there would have to be something to grab onto in the show, right? Unfortunately this adaptation of the Thai musical 'Behind the Painting' based on the novel by Siburapha offered nothing but a clunky story and nuance free music and lyrics that elicited no passion or romance, which for a love story is deadly.
The 5th Avenue Theatre presents the sweeping new musical, WATERFALL, featuring Laura Griffith (Broadway: Sweet Smell of Success, The Light in the Piazza), Thom Sesma (Broadway: The Times They are A-Changin', Man of La Mancha), J. Elaine Marcos (Broadway: Annie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert), and Thai pop superstar Bie Sukrit. The production officially opens tonight, October 15.

On Monday, August 10th, STAGES St. Louis hosted its annual one-night-only cabaret event, Cheers!, benefiting the organization's Education and Artistic Programs. This year, STAGES proudly presented the world premiere of The Story Goes On: The Songs of Maltby & Shire, the inaugural workshop production from Emerson American Musical Creative (AMC). AMC is the newest division at STAGES for the creation of new American musicals. Monday night's attending audience was the first to enjoy this brand new show.
I had the distinct privilege of being invited to attend Cheers! STAGES St. Louis' Annual Summer Cabaret last week, and it was a unique and fun experience that I was able to share with my young son. It's a yearly event that's designed to raise funds for STAGES' educational and artistic programs, and it featured a number of very interesting and entertaining performances, as well as some tasty appetizers and desserts prepared by Michael Brightman's With Love Catering. To say the event was a success is an understatement. What made this particular presentation especially memorable was the world premiere of a work-in-progress production of THE STORY GOES ON, which is a brand new revue of the songs of Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire.
