Museum of the Moving Image to Host WAY, WAY BACK Screening with Nat Faxon, Jim Rash & More, 6/27

Museum of the Moving Image will present a preview screening of The Way, Way Back, the eagerly anticipated summer comedy from Fox Searchlight, on Thursday, June 27, at 7:00 p.m. Following the screening, directors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (the team that won an Oscar for writingThe Descendants), and the film's stars Liam James and Sam Rockwell will participate in a discussion with Chief Curator David Schwartz. The film, which opens in theaters July 5, also features Steve Carell, Allison Janney, Zoe Levin, and Toni Collette.

Composer David Schwartz to Return for ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Netflix Series

Thanks to loyal fans and Netflix, Arrested Development is back! Fans of Arrested Development are as gung-ho about the music as they are about the show. Composer David Schwartz (Deadwood, Northern Exposure), who composed the music for the entire series, is back for a fourth season, and a movie to follow. Schwartz composes both the original score and songs for the series.

Museum of the Moving Image will present an eighteen-film screening series celebrating music movies on the big screen, in conjunction with its current exhibition Spectacle: The Music Video. Taking its title from the title card at the beginning of Martin Scorsese's The Last Waltz-'This film should be played loud!'-the series Play This Movie Loud! opens today, May 4, and continues through June 9, 2013.

LATINOS BEYOND REEL Screening and Discussion Set for Moving Image Today

As part of its ongoing series Changing the Picture, sponsored by Time Warner, Inc., Museum of the Moving Image will present the documentary film Latinos Beyond Reel: Challenging a Media Stereotype followed by a town-hall discussion about the role of Latinos in the media and the obstacles they face in representation within mainstream culture. The program, today, April 28, at 5:30 p.m., will feature appearances by Miguel Picker, co-director of Latinos Beyond Reel; actress Liza Colon-Zayas (Law and Order: SVU, Louie); actor Tony Plana (Ugly Betty, Three Amigos, Resurrection Blvd.); Maria Agui Carter, Chair, National Association of Latino Independent Producers; and will be moderated by Museum trustee Warrington Hudlin. The program was organized by independent filmmaker Edwin Pagan, a producer of Latinos Beyond Reel.

Danny Kaye (1913-1987) was one of the most versatile, charismatic, and beloved entertainers of the 20th century. Museum of the Moving Image will present a special centennial tribute hosted by Dena Kaye, Danny Kaye's daughter, on Sunday, April 27, 2013, at 2:00 p.m.The program will begin with a jam-packed, breathtaking 28-minute compilation "The Genius of Danny Kaye," with highlights from his remarkable career, followed by a conversation with Dena Kaye moderated by Chief Curator David Schwartz. Afterwards, the Museum will present a rare screening of Knock on Wood, which may be the best screen showcase for Kaye's many talents.

Australian Ensemble to Perform Folk/Jazz/Classical Score to THE GENERAL

The acclaimed Australian musical ensemble Viola Dana will make a rare New York appearance to perform violist and composer Kathy Corecig's fresh and delightful new score to Buster Keaton's The General at Museum of the Moving Image. Corecig's country- and bluegrass-infused blend of American folk tunes, Steve Reich-inspired train evocations, and jazz will bring Keaton's great film to life in a performance that will enchant audiences of all ages. The performance takes place on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. Tickets, which are $15 public/$9 Museum members (and free for Silver Screen members and above), include admission to the Museum, with access to the new exhibition Spectacle: The Music Video.

Made up of an ever-expanding community of writers in New York and beyond, Reverse Shot publishes reviews of contemporary films and essays that maintain a conversation with film history. Director Harmony Korine Appears at SPRING BREAKERS Screening for Moving Image Retrospective Today

Director, screenwriter, and artist Harmony Korine has developed an aesthetic as unique and bracing as any that launched in the heyday of 1990s American independent film. Korine made his name as the screenwriter of the nihilistic-teen movie Kids, but came into his own as a director with the 1997 feature debut, Gummo. From March 8 through 22, 2013, Museum of the Moving Image will present a retrospective of all of Korine's five feature films to date, including his latest, Spring Breakers-a triumph at both the Toronto and Venice film festivals.

Amos Vogel and Film as a Subversive Art Honored with Series of 16 Iconic Films

Amos Vogel (1922-2012) was one of the most influential film programmers of the 20th century, as the co-founder of the avant-garde film club Cinema 16, co-founder of the New York Film Festival, and author of the seminal 1974 book Film as a Subversive Art. From March 16 through 31, 2013, Museum of the Moving Image will present a celebration of Vogel's life's work with a series of sixteen iconic films championed by Vogel in his book. These films elucidate through provocation, joy, and transgression-each one a testimony to the power of cinema and of Vogel's unique vision.
