Today, SHOWTIME announced that it has signed a two-year overall deal with five-time Emmy and Writers Guild Award nominee, and DEXTER showrunner and executive producer Scott Buck. Buck is currently in development on a few projects for the network, including supervising the script for Matthew Specktor's novel American Dream Machine, which DEXTER's Michael C. Hall will also executive produce and Specktor will write. The announcement was made by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc.
This fall, SHOWTIME will take an unflinching, in-depth look at some remarkable individuals facing their own imminent mortality in the documentary series TIME OF DEATH, from executive producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of the Magical Elves production team (Top Chef, Fashion Star, The Real L Word(R)). Cameras will follow brave, terminally ill individuals as they live out their final days, supported by family, friends, healthcare teams and hospice workers, who gently help guide the process. TIME OF DEATH is currently in post-production for a fall debut on SHOWTIME.
The epic saga of THE BORGIAS, a complex, unvarnished portrait of one of history's most infamous dynastic families, is created by Academy Award-winner and Emmy nominee Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Interview with the Vampire). The series will conclude with its final episode on Sunday, June 16th at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME. This expansive drama series stars Oscar winner Jeremy Irons in his Golden Globe-nominated role as Pope Alexander VI, the cunning, manipulative patriarch of the infamous Borgia dynasty, who builds an empire by bribing, buying and muscling his way into the papacy. THE BORGIAS cast also includes François Arnaud, Holliday Grainger, Joanne Whalley, Lotte Verbeek, Sean Harris, Thure Lindhart, Gina McKee, Peter Sullivan, Julian Bleach and Colm Feore.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime's president, David Nevins, confirmed the network is considering a spin-off of the hit show, which would follow Deb, Dexter's foster sister, played by Jennifer Carpenter.
In a special announcement this afternoon made directly to DEXTER's 13 million fans on the show's Facebook page, SHOWTIME confirmed that the upcoming eighth season of the groundbreaking series will be its final one. The announcement coincided with the release of an exclusive tease from the premiere of the series' eighth and final season, which debuts on Sunday June 30th at 9 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME. The series premiered on the network on October 1, 2006 and has grown its loyal audience every season since its debut. TVGuide reports that the upcoming season of the Showtime hit DEXTER may be its last. At yesterday's Deutsche Bank Media, Internet and Telecom conference, Les Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corp., which owns Showtime, commented that the drama will begin its final season this summer.
