A pair of plucky orphans fall into the clutches of a greedy couple in the final installment of SCR's 2009-2010 Theatre for Young Audiences season. Ben and the Magic Paintbrush, adapted by Bathsheba Doran from a Chinese folk tale, has its world premiere May 21 through June 6 on the Julianne Argyros stage.

New Dramatists, Tony Honor recipient and one of the nation's premiere playwright development workshop, honored two-time Tony Award winner Julie Taymor with their 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award at its 61st Annual Spring Luncheon tribute, to be held Tuesday, May 18th at the New York Marriott Marquis. Ms. Taymor's award was presented to her by Academy Award winning actress Helen Mirren, who stars in Taymor's soon-to-be-released film adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatricals served as the Luncheon Chair. Disney Theatricals and Robert Boyett were the benefactors for New Dramatists 61st Annual Spring Luncheon.

Producers DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions, Ltd. are thrilled to announce casting for SHREK THE MUSICAL. Native Chicagoan, Eric Petersen will lead the First National Tour cast as Shrek. South Coast Repertory's 13th annual Pacific Playwrights Festival (PPF) will shine the spotlight on seven new plays written by America's finest writers, including five who will be familiar to SCR audiences and two who are making their SCR debuts. This year's festival, which takes place April 23-25, will feature fully-produced world premieres by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Julia Cho and staged readings of brand-new works by Amy Freed, Itamar Moses, Bathsheba Doran, Sofia Alvarez and David West Read.
