Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's Pulitzer Prize-winning play YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU just opened last night, September 28, 2014, at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street), after 32 previews. The production is directed by six-time Tony Award-nominee and Drama Desk Award winnerScott Ellis (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Twelve Angry Men, 1776) and will play a 19-week limited engagement. The 2014-15 season sees one of Deborah Voigt's most personal projects come to fruition, with the HarperCollins publication of her candid, funny, and soul-baring memoir Call Me Debbie: True Confessions of a Down-to-Earth Diva. She also returns to the opera house, reprising her star turn in Francesca Zambello's Salome for her Dallas Opera debut; making her title role debut in a new staging of The Merry Widow at Michigan Opera Theater; and undertaking the roles of Elisabeth and Venus in Tannhäuser at the Hamburg State Opera – her first time singing both roles in the same production. To launch her new appointment as WQXR's inaugural Susan W. Rose Artist-in-Residence, Voigt co-hosts the opening-night broadcast of Carnegie Hall Live, joining WQXR host Jeff Spurgeon to present the Berlin Philharmonic, Sir Simon Rattle and Anne-Sophie Mutter live in concert from the New York venue. She herself headlines the season-opening concert of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and season-closing events at both the Pacific Symphony and the USM Symphony, which she joins for “An Evening with Deborah Voigt.” Meanwhile, as returning Artist-in-Residence at the Washington National Opera, the beloved soprano continues mentoring young singers in the company's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program throughout the season.

Billy Magnussen joins his previously announced chums - Kristine Nielsen, David Hyde Pierce and Sigourney Weaver - for a reading of Noel Coward's A SONG AT TWILIGHT. The VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE friends are reuniting for a benefit performance to kick off the 2014/2015 season of The Flea Theater. The performance will take place on Monday, September 15. A cocktail reception begins at 6 pm followed by the reading at 7pm and then a talkback with the actors. Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor David Hyde Pierce will join the critically acclaimed drama THE GOOD WIFE in a recurring role during the show's upcoming sixth season. Pierce will play a highly respected cable news legal commentator who is so disgusted by the corruption and murder rate in Chicago that he decides to run for office in order to affect change. The role will mark Pierce's first appearance in a television series since "Frasier" ended its run in 2004.

When physical comedy is done well it can be a beautiful thing. I still marvel at a seven-minute bit David Hyde Pierce did with an ironing board on the show Frasier (seriously, go look it up). But good physical comedy is not easy. Fortunately for us the cast of Strawberry Theatre Workshop's production of "Black Comedy" are more than up to the task as they presented one of the funniest displays of physical comedy I've seen in town since "Boeing Boeing" a few years back.

In 2011, BroadwayWorld reported that Brian Hargrove and Barbara Anselmi's new musical IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU, directed by David Hyde Pierce in its world premiere at the George Street Playhouse that year, would be coming to Broadway. Now according to an Equity casting notice, it seems like the show will indeed land on Broadway, with rehearsals set to begin in January 2015. The musical will open on or around March 26, 2015.
In opening Milwaukee Chamber Theatre's 40th Anniversary season, Milwaukee actor Angela Iannone reprises the role of Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's Tony Award winning play Master Class this August. While Callas has ultimately been lauded as the top operatic singer in the last century, Iannone has garnered a 2014 Ten Chimneys Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship under David Hyde Pierce's directorship. Then Iannone was recently awarded Milwaukee's second Ruth Schudson Leading Lady Honoree that adds to her multiple theater achievements. These two women appearing in different eras present a master force on the power of art to transform a cultural landscape and christens Milwaukee's 2014-2015 theater season.
