The Making of America's Musical- 1776: The Story Behind the Story

As America celebrates its 240th Birthday today, let's talk about what is probably one of the greatest musicals ever written, and it only came about 46 years before Hamilton. 1776 dramatizes the story of how John Adams was able to persuade his colleagues to vote for American independence as well as signing the Declaration of Independence. While the musical does dramatize the most important event in American history, the story behind the musical is probably just as interesting.

The Chicago Mammals to Present CLAY CONTINENT: JEKYLL AND HYDE

The Chicago Mammals remount their highly acclaimed production CLAY CONTINENT - JEKYLL AND HYDE. Inspired by the grotesque portraiture of Francis Bacon and the novel 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde', CLAY CONTINENT is an aural pageant of diabolical villainy constructed with excerpts of text from the stories of Robert Louis Stevenson, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Edgar Allen Poe.

DATE NIGHT AT PET EMERGENCY Extends at The Marsh Berkeley

The Marsh Berkeley announces that due to popular demand, Lisa Rothman's new solo show DATE NIGHT AT PET EMERGENCY will extend again through March 26. The show will also host a special Valentine's benefit on February 13 celebrating couples who have stuck it out.

The Marsh Berkeley announces due to popular demand, Lisa Rothman's new solo show DATE NIGHT AT PET EMERGENCY will extend with performances through January 23. Ever since having a second baby, Lisa and Kevin have been fighting over sippy cups, fruit salad, and impenetrable origami instructions. Now Kevin is storming around the emergency pet clinic ranting about vet bills and wondering how a dog can possibly overdose on antibiotics. Lisa doesn't know what to do - but does know this is the worst date night ever. Directed by David Ford, DATE NIGHT AT PET EMERGENCY was originally scheduled to run through December 5, but will now extend through January 23 with performances Saturdays at 5pm at The Marsh Berkeley, 2120 Allston Way, Berkeley. THE JEWELRY BOX Returning to The Marsh

EACH AND EVERY THING was an instant hit with audiences and critics alike last Summer when it enjoyed a sold-out run and two extensions at The Marsh San Francisco, receiving the highest accolades from every news outlet, and winning the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Solo Show. Geoff Hoyle's LEAR'S SHADOW Extends at The Marsh

The Marsh has announced award-winning actor/playwright Geoff Hoyle's newest solo show Lear's Shadow will extend, with continuing performances through June 27. It may be business-as-usual when great tragedians such as Laurence Olivier, Sir Ian McKellen, and Paul Scofield perform in King Lear, but this time a great clown tackles Shakespeare's masterpiece. Audiences experience King Lear like never before as the Jester (played by Hoyle), recently unemployed, tells his side to Shakespeare's most tragic, cosmic, and human of stories in this poignant solo performance. Lear's Shadow, written in collaboration with and directed by the master of the solo form David Ford, will run Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8pm and Saturdays at 5pm through May 30.
