The Dvorak American Heritage Association will feature An Evening with George Mraz & Friends on Friday, February 26th. World-renowned jazz bassist George Mraz was presented The Medal of the President of The Czech Republic for Lifetime Achievement on his 65th birthday, June 10, 2009 at the Prague Castle. Known for his historic work with jazz icons Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan and Hank Jones, to name a few, Mraz appears for the first time publicly performing a program consisting entirely of his own compositions with legendary drummer Joey Baron (Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, David Bowie, and Michael Jackson...) and stellar tenor saxophonist Rich Perry (Thad Jones/Mel Lewis now Vanguard Orchestra, Maria Schneider's Orchestra, Chet Baker, and Billy Hart). This totally original program has been recently recorded on CD and DVD for release later this year.

'Dreaming the Duke' is at Ordway Center for the Performing Arts on February 21, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. as part of Ordway's Target World Music and Dance Series.
Grammy Award winning saxophonist David Sanborn returns to the Blue Note with a new quartet in support of his upcoming CD, Only Everything (Jan. 26, Decca), the 25th recording of his career. Only Everything features special guests such as Joss Stone and James Taylor alongside jazz veterans like organist Joey DeFrancesco, who will be featured in Sanborn's band at the Blue Note from Feb. 9 - 14. Says Sanborn of DeFrancesco, "Joey knows how to get that sound that's so soulful and yet still has a jazz feel." Joining Sanborn and DeFrancesco will be keyboardist Ricky Peterson and drummer Gene Lake.

On Sunday, January 10 at the China Club Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Robert Schenkkan, and composer/lyricist Neil Berg presented an industry showcase of their new musical THE 12. Produced by Adam Friedson and Left Feild Productions, this musical showcase is a preview to its premiere production at the Broward Center this upcoming spring. The showcase, part of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters conference, was directed by Richard Seyd.
