David Bowie Channel to Launch on SiriusXM, 10/30

Sirius XM Radio (SIRI) announced today that it will launch The David Bowie Channel, the commercial-free music channel featuring the complete works of innovative music pioneer David Bowie.

The Global Cabaret Festival Kicks Off Today

Albert Schultz, Founding Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company, today announced details of the sixth annual Global Cabaret Festival. From today, October 24 to Sunday, October 27, the Young Centre for the Performing Arts once again becomes home to over 150 of Canada's leading performance artists staging over 15 original one-hour songbooks and cabarets.

Sharron Matthews talks Something 'Completely Different' at Global Cabaret Fest

Sharron Matthew's is one of the foremost stars of Canada's cabaret scene, having recently traveled the world on her GOLD tour she returned to Toronto to become the first artist in residence at Buddies in Bad Times theatre where she continues to develop and hone her cabaret skills. This year she joins the stellar line-up at the Global Cabaret Festival, which includes such diverse programming as a David Bowie and Bob Dylan songbook, a look at historical Paris with the music of Debussy and Ravel, Dennis Lee's Lost Songs of Toronto and more. For her contribution, Sharron Matthews has promised to do something 'completely different', which of course had us very intrigued. BWW sat down to talk with Sharron about what exactly 'completely different' entrails, her love of all things cabaret and why she feels The Global Cabaret Festival is such an important event for Toronto:

RSC's RICHARD II, Starring David Tennant, Comes to US Cinemas This Winter, Dec 3-Jan 2

The Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) production of William Shakespeare's RICHARD II with David Tennant in the title role opened last night to rave reviews. The production will be shown across the US and Canada from December 3, 2013 to January 2, 2014 as the premiere broadcast of 'Live from Stratford-upon Avon,' a program that will screen RSC productions from Shakespeare's home town around the world.

I Love Lucy Live takes the stage in Toronto next week - and marks the first time these iconic characters have been tackled live on stage. Frist Center Announces 30 AMERICANS Programming, Fall 2013

This fall the Frist Center for the Visual Arts will offer a variety of exciting public programming in conjunction with the exhibition 30 Americans. Highlights include Artist's Perspective lectures by Hank Willis Thomas and Nina Chanel Abney, two of the artists featured in 30 Americans. Also, in partnership with Vanderbilt University's Office of Community, Neighborhood, and Government Relations, the Frist Center will host a special three-part lunch and lecture series presented by Vanderbilt professors and guest panelists. Titled 'Food for Thought: Visualizing America through Art by African American Artists and Norman Rockwell,' the series will explore issues such as the U.S. civil rights movement and how historical events have shaped visual as well as social culture.

The Frist Center Opens 30 AMERICANS Exhibition Today

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts will present 30 Americans, an exhibition surveying works by many of the nation's leading African American artists working since the mid-1970s. Often provocative and challenging, the exhibition explores how artists relate their own sense of self to ideas within history, popular culture and contemporary mass media central to American society. 30 Americans will be on view in the Center's Ingram Gallery from today, Oct. 11, 2013 through Jan. 12, 2014.
