Nominations Open for the NYC Readers Jazz Awards!

Hot House Magazine, in partnership with Jazzmobile is excited to announce the 6th New York City Readers Jazz Awards on Sunday, November 24th at 4pm at New York City's famed Birdland Jazz Club, located at 315 West 44th Street. This greatly anticipated event will celebrate the vitality of the jazz art form by allowing fans to vote for their favorite jazz artists in New York City! Nominations are open through September, and voting begins and continues through October. This exciting period culminates on November 24th, where the winners of each category will be officially announced.

Steve Blum's Molecular Organ Trio Comes to The Palace Theater

On Friday March 29th, the brilliant guitarist Steve Blum and his Molecular Organ Trio will open the Jazz at the Poli Spring Series at the Palace Theater Poli Club (100 E. Main St, Waterbury, CT). A pioneering fusion guitarist, a lifelong admirer of Wes Montgomery, and a very versatile player who has been a major asset on a countless number of sessions since the early 1970s, Blum heads a group that also features organist Akiko and drummer McClenty Hunter.

Indy Jazz Fest Celebrates 20 Years, Unveils 2018 Festival Lineup

Now celebrating 20 years as a mainstay in the Indianapolis arts and culture scene, the annual Indy Jazz Fest returns in 2018 with a 10-day lineup celebrating the legacy of jazz, modern masters and the discovery of new jazz stars. Indy Jazz Fest returns this year with "The Big Beat" to celebrate and honor the spirit of Art Blakey. This year's festival features Jazz new stars, Indianapolis' notable performers and award winning national acts.

Hot Jazz and Fabulous Food Featured At Bickford Summer JazzFest

The Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum presents Danny Bacher and his All-Star Band in concert on Thursday, July 12, as part of the popular Summer JazzFest. The show, "Accentuate the Positive," draws on tunes from his soon-to-be-released "Still Happy" CD as well as his exciting salute to Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan and Louis Prima from his best-selling debut CD. Danny will also premiere several new arrangements including a tribute to the great Johnny Mercer. The All-Stars will feature Harry Allen on tenor sax, Charlie Caranicas on trumpet, Allen Farnham on piano, Bill Moring on bass, and Alvester Garnett on drums. The food truck picnic begins at 5:30 and the concert at 7:30.

The Sixth Annual Riverview Jazz Festival Returns To Jersey City

Clear your calendars, grab your lawn chairs, and get ready for some great music! Jersey City's most prolific festival returns for its sixth year of world-class jazz in its annual week-long celebration this June. Enjoy food trucks, children's activities, a record riot, local vendors, and hundreds of professional musicians throughout the week. The sixth annual Riverview Jazz Festival will feature over 40 events, capped by two outdoor festival events June 1st and 9th.

Best Of The Loft Premieres At SOPAC

South Orange Performing Arts Center's famed Jazz and Blues in the Loft Series, curated by Lee May & Mike Griot, is now bringing more of a great thing to SOPAC audiences with Best of the Loft on May 6 at 7 p.m. Four of the most popular artists from the series will be presented on the mainstage, making for one stellar evening of entertainment.   Best of the Loft will be hosted by co-writer, producer, choreographer and star of the long-running Shades of Harlem revue show, Ty Stephens.

Trumpeter and Big Band Leader Bill Warfield To Release FOR LEW Tribute Album in Honor of Mentor Lew Soloff

Bill Warfield's career as a trumpeter was launched the moment he heard Lew Soloff's immortal solo on the Blood, Sweat & Tears hit 'Spinning Wheel.' 'It just completely knocked me out,' says Warfield, who was 18 at the time and gigging as a pianist, having given up hope of earning a living as a horn player due to dental problems. 'I'd never heard anything like it. I decided at that point that I wanted to play the trumpet again.'

Ben Rosenblum to Play Mezzrow with Billy Hart & Curtis Lundy

Pianist Ben Rosenblum will perform music from his debut release Instead alongside a veteran rhythm section of jazz masters, including Curtis Lundy (Grammy-nominated bassist famous for his work with Betty Carter) and Billy Hart (legendary drummer with Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock) at Mezzrow (163 West 10th Street) on Sunday, May 21.  

Jazz Pianist Ben Rosenblum to Play The Kitano in New York City

Pianist Ben Rosenblum will present unique solo piano programs each Tuesday in April at The Kitano, (66 Park Ave, no cover, $15 min food/drink charge), including: selected standards and originals (April 4), selections from unusual inspirations/sources (April 11); special guests (April 18); and selections from his debut album (April 25).  Ben's music has earned numerous awards, including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award and several Downbeat Student Music Awards (best original composition and best original arrangement), and has been described as "mature beyond his years."
