Atlanta's Synchronicity Theatre to present 2018 SHEWRITES New Play Festival

In association with the Playwrights' Center of Minneapolis and Atlanta's Working Title Playwrights, Synchronicity Theatre will present SheWrites, a national playwriting competition for women, February 12 23, 2018 at Synchronicity Theatre in Atlanta. The plays that will be workshopped this year are Medica by Daryl Lisa Fazio, Romeo & Naomi Ramirez by Kathryn Walat, and Hands of Color by Kimberly Monks. Florida Repertory Theatre, an Associate Member of the National New Play Network, is seeking submissions for its 2018 PlayLab Festival slated for May 3 6. The fifth annual festival is an intensive weekend of rehearsals, readings, talkbacks, and development that brings professional playwrights, directors, and actors together to hone up to six new plays in a laboratory setting.

City, County and State Agencies Award Actor's Express $72,500

Actor's Express has been awarded grants of $30,000 by both the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and a grant of $12,500 by the Georgia Council for the Arts to support its programming throughout 2017 and 2018. Together the grants amount to the highest level of government support Actor's Express has received in its 30 year history. Managing Director Alex Scollon comments, 'As Actor's Express enters its 30th Anniversary Season, we are honored that the city, county and state recognize the theatre's contribution to the region's cultural community.' The 30th Anniversary Season includes mainstage productions of The Christians by Lucas Hnath, Cardboard Piano by Hansol Jung, both parts of Tony Kushner's Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning masterpiece Angels in America, the World Premiere comedy The Flower Room by Atlanta playwright Daryl Lisa Fazio and a major Broadway musical to be announced, as well as a special concert version of The Harvey Milk Show and the Third Annual Threshold New Play Festival.

Florida Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce the final addition to its 20th Anniversary Season with the world premiere production of Mark St. Germain's, 'George Washington's Teeth.' The farce for five women will play in Florida Rep's ArtStage Studio Theatre April 3 to May 6, 2018, and was chosen from six plays read as part of the company's PlayLab Festival held earlier this year.

National New Play Network to Premiere 4 Plays at 15 Theaters This Year

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces four Rolling World Premieres: Halftime with Don by Ken Weitzman, Doublewide by Stephen Spotswood, The Arsonists by Jacqueline Goldfinger, and Building the Wall by Robert Schenkkan. The four plays will receive a total of 15 NNPN RWP productions, with each play seeing at least three distinct productions in a discrete 12-month period.
