Of the too-many stage variations of Charles Dickens’ Scrooge story this time of year, the one that’s found its place in my cold, black heart is the Keegan Theatre’s “An Irish Carol.”
The Keegan Theatre has announced the 2024 cast and team of Matthew J. Keenan’s AN IRISH CAROL, Keegan’s own holiday tradition returning for its 14th year.
Starring Mark Williams Myers, Richard Isaacs, Avery Anderson, Samantha Marti Parisi, Daniel McKay, and Daniel Lyons, Daniel's Husband is a contemporary American play about the perfect couple – Daniel and Mitchell - who happen to have polarized worldviews views on gay marriage. These conflicting views set in motion an important chain of events.
OIL IN THE ALLEY is a unique music act which features original rock music mixed with polished improvisational humor. In performance, Sean T.C O'Malley and R. Kevin Garcia Doyle are always in character; there is no "improviser host" persona asking for suggestions. Instead, the rockers interact with their megafans and take inspiration from clothing, turns of phrase, and anything else to create completely new lyrics to original rock songs as if they were "classic" hits from their heyday.
Emma Thompson joins Jessica Hynes, Rory Kinnear, Ruth Madeley, T'Nia Miller, Anne Reid and Russell Tovey as production for Years And Years begins in Manchester.
As seasonal offerings go, An Irish Carol is perfect for those who love the narrative arc of Dickens' original, and who could use the spiritual uplift, but who are sick to death of Marleys in chains, let alone all those cheery Fezziwigs. Down-to-earth, but with heart, it shines to remind us that there is often decency hiding behind the most gruff of exteriors.
