Acclaimed Off-Broadway theater company Playwrights Horizons has opened its 2017 Online Auction.

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) just presented the 62nd Annual Obie Awards®. Jennifer Kidwell & Scott R. Sheppard's Underground Railroad Game, produced by Ars Nova, and J.T. Roger's Oslo, produced by Lincoln Center Theater, shared the Obie Awards for Best New American Theatre Work, which is accompanied by a $500 prize each. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel received a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). 

Playwrights Horizons begins accepting entries today, Monday, May 8 at 12 Noon, for the LIVEforFIVE online lottery for $5 tickets to their world premiere production of BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE, a new musical with book, music and lyrics by Obie Award winner Kirsten Childs (The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin at Playwrights, Miracle Brothers).

Acclaimed Off-Broadway theater company Playwrights Horizons will hold its annual Spring Gala on Monday evening, May 8, at the event space 583 Park Avenue. Titled A CELEBRATION OF SONG, the evening will honor three of the company's exceptional alumni writers: Tony Award nominee Scott Frankel (Grey Gardens and Far From Heaven at Playwrights), Tony Award nominee Michael Korie (Grey Gardens and Far From Heaven at Playwrights) and Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife and Grey Gardens at Playwrights). The Grey Gardens writing team has returned to Broadway with their new musical, War Paint, now playing at The Nederlander Theatre.

Rogers' new play Oslo, directed by Bartlett Sher, re-opens this week at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street), after a sold-out run last summer off-Broadway at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. When J.T. Rogers' fascinating play about the power and beauty of human interaction and diplomacy, OSLO, premiered Off-Broadway this past July at Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theater, it was a week before the national convention where Donald Trump was to be voted in as the Republican party's presidential candidate. While a good deal of the country was surprised to see the celebrity businessman who had never held a political office get so far in the election process, New York playgoers, a predominantly left-leaning bunch, were most likely optimistic, though cautiously so, that his candidacy would collapse during the general election.

Playwrights Horizons has announced, following critical acclaim and popular demand, a one-week extension for The Profane, the world premiere of a new play by Horton Foote Prize winner Zayd Dohrn (Sick, Reborning) and directed by Kip Fagan (Grand Concourse at Playwrights, Exit Strategy).

Lincoln Center Theater has announced an online ticket lottery for its production of the critically acclaimed J.T. Rogers' play OSLO, beginning with the play's first preview this Thursday, March 23 at 8pm at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65th Street).  The production, directed by Bartlett Sher, opens on Thursday, April 13.

Vineyard Theatre Artistic Directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern have just announced that original cast members will record the Kid Victory cast recording on Monday, March 20. Broadway Records is set to release the recording in September, produced by Michael Croiter.

Vineyard Theatre Artistic Directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern announce that Tony Award nominee David Garrison (Vineyard's MIDDLETOWN and EIGHT DAYS BACKWARDS) will join the cast of KID VICTORY starting Tuesday, March 14 for the the final week of its run. Garrison replaces Daniel Jenkins who returns to OSLO for the Broadway production.

Playwrights Horizons, under the leadership of Artistic Director Tim Sanford and Managing Director Leslie Marcus, is proud to announce the six productions of its 2017/2018 Season.  The six new works will be presented at the theater company's home at 416 West 42nd Street. 

Though the brilliant musicals that composer John Kander created with his late lyricist partner Fred Ebb frequently tackled dark and violent issues (CABARET, CHICAGO, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN and THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS among them), they did so with a shiny, often cynical veneer of show-biz. Snazzy melodies and joyful lyrics barely hid horrific subtext.
