Julie Andrews Will Host Annual PBS New Year's Day Concert

Julie Andrews will be the host of the Annual New Year's Day concert on PBS. The show will feature the Vienna Philharmonic. Academy Award winner Andrews is following in the host-footsteps of Walter Cronkite. Cronkite hosted the Annual New Year's Day concert for over two decades.

Casting Update News For The MET'S 'TRISTAN UND ISOLDE'

Gary Lehman will sing the role of Tristan in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde this evening, replacing Peter Seiffert, who is ill. Lehman sang two performances of Tristan at the Met last season. Seiffert is still scheduled for performances on December 6 matinee, 12, 16, and 20. Daniel Barenboim conducts, and Katarina Dalayman sings the role of Isolde as scheduled.

Marin Alsop will lead the New York Philharmonic in four concerts, each featuring Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World, October 7, 10, and 11, 2008. The programs on October 7 at 7:30 p.m. and October 11 at 8:00 p.m. will comprise Bartók's The Wooden Prince Suite; Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2, with Rafał Blechacz making his New York Philharmonic debut; and the Dvořák symphony.

Metropolitan Opera on SIRIUS Satellite Radio channel 78 launches its regular live broadcasts of the company's 2008-09 season with the Opening Night Gala starring Renée Fleming, which airs on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. The third season of Met Opera Radio on SIRIUS features four live broadcasts weekly as the Met celebrates its 125th anniversary with six new productions, including the company premiere of John Adams's Doctor Atomic, 18 revivals, and the season grand finale of Wagner's epic Ring cycle, conducted by Music Director James Levine.
