Opening night is tonight for Roundabout Theatre Company's new Broadway production of Oscar Wilde's comedy The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by and starring Brian Bedford as "Lady Bracknell," at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42nd St.).
This month, BroadwayWorld is showcasing actress Sara Topham, who is making her Broadway debut as Gwendolyn in Roundabout Theatre Company's production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Previously, she was part of this production at The Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
Celebrated actress and two-time Tony Award-winner Frances Sternhagen will be joining the confluence of artists and audiences for Florida Stage's 5th Annual 1st Stage New Works Festival. Ms. Sternhagen will be featured in a staged reading of legendary playwright Israel Horovitz' new play Beverley on Saturday, February 5, 2011. On Friday, February 4, in place of the Festival's usual Keynote speech, Ms. Sternhagen will take part in what is being called 'A Conversation with Frances Sternhagen.' Florida Stage Producing Director Louis Tyrrell will conduct a public interview with Sternhagen on stage in the Persson Hall at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. The Florida Stage 1st Stage New Works Festival takes place February 3-6, 2011. Dana Ivey and Robert Bogue will be in Provincetown, MA on September 26 for a staged reading of 'Suddenly Last Summer', a play written by Tennesse Williams. Ivey will play Mrs. Venable, and Bogue will play Dr. Cukrowicz - both roles made famous in the Katharine Hepburn and Montgomery Clift film.
Critically acclaimed novelist Francine Prose, writer of the recently published Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife, will present an author talk and book signing, on Sunday, September 19, 3 p.m., at Westport Country Playhouse. Prose will speak about her book, followed by an interview with David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director, and a Q&A with the audience.
