Michigan's Barn Theatre Forced to Cut Summer Productions

Michigan's long-running Barn Theatre has been forced to cancel the remaining productions in its 2009/2010 season due to budgetary constraints. The theatre, which has been a staple in Michigan, providing theatre for more than 60 years, has been home to some of Broadway's biggest names including Jonathan Larson, Marin Mazzie, and Tom Wopat.

The gala features the only live feed in Los Angeles of the Tony Awards as they happen in New York. Marc Cherry, creator/producer of 'Desperate Housewives' and David Rambo, producer/writer is 'CSI' will produce and write this event.

Girls' Stories Brought To Life By Celebrated Actors At Pasadena Playhouse On May 3rd

WriteGirl, the Los Angeles-based creative writing and mentoring organization, in partnership with the acclaimed Pasadena Playhouse is pleased to announce PlayWriteGirl, which will be held May 3 at the Pasadena Playhouse. From 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m., more than 65 teen girls from Pasadena and beyond, along with their mentors, will participate in the workshop part of PlayWriteGirl. They will learn about monologue and scene-writing in sessions led by guest writers, including screenwriter Robin Swicord (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), screenwriter Gina Prince-Bythewood (Secret Life of Bees), producer Jennifer Crittenden (The New Adventures of Old Christine, Seinfeld), Martha Williamson and Jule Selbo (Touched by an Angel) and playwrights Laural Meade and Jennie Webb.

The Independent Film 2009 Spirit Awards were given out last night Saturday, February 21 in Los Angeles and The Wrestler was a big winner, nabbing Best Film and Best Actor for star Mickey Rourke. Other acting awards went to Melissa Leo for Best Actress for Frozen River, James Franco won best supporting actor for Milk, while Penelope Cruz snagged a best supporting win for Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Woody Allen earned a Best Screenplay award for the film as well.

The 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were simulcast Live Nationally on TNT and TBS last night, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT, and 6 p.m. MT from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. Stage and screen favorites such as Meryl Streep, Laura Linney and Alec Baldwin all took home awards for their fantastic work, BroadwayWorld had cameras everywhere from the Red Carpet to the Winners Stage in the Press Room to bring you all the starry action! Of the top industry accolades presented to performers, only the Screen Actors Guild Awards are selected solely by actors' peers. Two randomly selected panels-one for television and one for film-each comprised of 2,100 Guild members from across the United States, chose this year's Actor and stunt honors nominees. Integrity Voting Systems, the Awards' official teller mailed the nominations secret ballots were mailed on November 26. Voting was completed by noon Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008.

'Desperate Housewives' to Extend Two More Seasons?

TV Guide is reporting that the ABC series 'Desperate Housewives' may extend with two more additional seasons. Marc Cherry, the series creator announced his hope of continuing at an ABC ceremony celebrating the 100th episode.

Lily Tomlin to Join 'Desperate Housewives' Cast This Fall

TV Guide is reporting that actress Lily Tomlin will be joining the ABC series 'Desperate Housewives' this fall. Tomlin will reportedly be playing the recurring role of Mrs. McCluskey's (played Kathryn Joosten) sister.
