Irish Theatre of Chicago has announced its 2016-17 Season, featuring a modern Irish classic, a Midwest premiere and a new staged reading festival of the works of emerging Irish playwrights.

Irish Theatre of Chicago has announced its 2016-17 Season, featuring a modern Irish classic, a Midwest premiere and a new staged reading festival of the works of emerging Irish playwrights.

Six world premiere plays and four new adaptations seen first by Chicago audiences were among those receiving nominations by The Jeff Awards Committee. 178 nominations in 32 categories honor Chicago Equity theatrical productions that opened between August 1, 2015 and July 31, 2016.

Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago. Tickets are currently on sale at www.irishtheatreofchicago.org. The press opening is Friday, May 27 at 7:30 pm.

Eugene O'Neill's blazing masterwork LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT introduces audiences to the enormously dysfunctional Tyrone family, who over the course of the play's three-and-a-half-hour run time, completely and utterly destroy one another. O'Neill felt that LONG DAY'S JOURNEY was such a personal and exposing play that he wished to have it published 25 years after his death. And in almost every moment of the play, we feel the immense agony and suffering of this deeply troubled, addiction-riddled family.

Celebrating 40 years as America's premier ensemble theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company launches its landmark 2015/16 Subscription Season with a large-scale world premiere production of John Steinbeck's masterpiece EAST OF EDEN. The play is currently in previews for an opening night on September 27. The production runs through November 15, 2015 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St).
