The Independent Spirit Awards were held on Saturday in Santa Monica, California, where stage vet Natalie Portman won the title of Best Actress for her work in 'Black Swan.' The film was also named Best Picture and earned an award for best director, Darren Aronofksy.

Annie Potts (Designing Women) heads the cast in the World Premiere of AfterMath, Elliott Shoenman's comedic drama about a widow trying to help her children, and herself, deal with the mess her husband left behind when he jumped into the Hudson River. A guest production at the Odyssey directed by Mark L. Taylor.

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced nominations this morning for the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards. Eva Mendes and Jeremy Renner served as presenters and 2011 Spirit Awards host Joel McHale was also on hand. Nominees for Best Feature include 127 Hours, Black Swan, Greenberg, The Kids Are All Right and Winter's Bone.
Sundance Announces FILM FORWARD Slate

Following up on last month's announcement of the Film Forward: Advancing Cultural Dialogue initiative, Sundance Institute announced today the ten films selected to participate in the inaugural year of this cultural exchange program. The first Film Forward slate includes five American and five international films which will be presented in collaboration with public and private partners. These films and their filmmakers will kick off the ambitious project in New York and Tunisia in December.

The Museum of Modern Art will premiere a special preview screening of Debra Granik's Winter's Bone (2010), winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Drama and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, in The Roy and Niuta Titus Theater 1 on Wednesday, June 9, at 8:30 p.m. The screening will be introduced by writer-director Debra Granik.

Sundance Institute announced today the lineup of films selected to screen in the U.S. and World Cinema Dramatic and Documentary Competitions for the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Matt Weaver & Scott Prisand, two of ROCK OF AGES' lead producers and co-owners of the LA-based Corner Store Entertainment, have two films in the top dramatic category at Sundance Film Festival. The films, which star a host of stage stars, are SYMPATHY FOR DELICIOUS (Mark Ruffalo, Laura Linney, Orlando Bloom and Juliette Lewis) and HESHER (Natalie Portman and Joseph Gordon Levitt).
