Through strong color and reductive shapes, he merged aspects of abstraction and representation in figure paintings, still lifes, and landscapes. DC Moore Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of his vibrant art, featuring paintings and drawings from 1948-1989. A catalogue with an essay by Robert Kushner will be available. It will also include an article on the artist by Eleanor Munro and photographs by Rudy Burckhardt that first appeared in ARTnews in May 1958. The opening reception will be today, June 6th from 5-7pm.

In 1945, Robert De Niro, Sr.'s work was included in the Autumn Salon at Peggy Guggenheim's Art of This Century gallery along with that of Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. The next year, he had his first solo exhibition at Guggenheim's gallery, an extremely prestigious honor for the young figurative painter. But while De Niro continued to show at the highly regarded Charles Egan Gallery throughout the 1950s, his career began to slip out of the critical spotlight, and he struggled for recognition in subsequent decades.

The production opened February 20, 2014 and will extend for an additional seven weeks through May 25, 2014. While probably best known for his powerful collages, Bearden also created modernist tempera paintings, lyrical abstractions, photographic enlargements that he called Projections, lush watercolors, and jazz and blues monotypes.
