Nederlander Launches Cultural Trade & Industry Exchange With China’s Minstry of Culture 9/19-9/24

As the leaders of the world convened at The United Nations, Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment hosts another international event in New York. A new training program has been established between Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment and China's Ministry of Culture under the title of 'Cultural Trade & Industry Exchange Program'; the first session was launched September 19th - 24th, 2010. This delegation comes from China's central and local cultural bureaus representing ten Chinese Provinces/Municipalities including Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangxi, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shenzhen, Sichuan, Hunan and Chongqing. This series of bilateral culture educational programs is designed to introduce China's theatre professionals, policy makers and educational experts to the business process of the Broadway industry. The six day, intensive series of seminars and theatre tours featured a delegation from Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment, and a team of Broadway industry experts.

Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company is proud to announce a call for submissions for its sixth season of the Global Age Project (GAP) festival of new works. The company will choose four new plays to be presented as staged readings with professional directors and actors during the GAP festival in February of 2011; the festival will coincide with the company's fully-staged World Premiere of 2010 GAP finalist Allison Moore's new comedy, COLLAPSE, the second main stage production to develop from the GAP.

Signature Theatre Company's New $60 Million Home Now Underway

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, Signature Theatre Company Founding Artistic Director James Houghton and Related Companies Executive Vice President Bruce A .Beal Jr. today announced a $60 million partnership to create a new home for the theater company. The Frank Gehry-designed Signature Center will be part of Related Companies' $800 million, 59-story, residential building and hotel on 42nd Street and 10th Avenue in the heart of the theater district. The building will provide more than 800 new housing units, including more than 160 that will be targeted to low-income families. The performing arts center will feature three intimate and distinct theatres, rehearsal studios, a café, bookstore and administrative offices, and will allow Signature to more than double its audience, with anticipated attendance of more than 80,000.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival and Mass Street Productions and Ryan J. Davis have welcomed Bay Bridge Productions, Chris Bensinger, and Deborah Taylor to the Street Lights team of producers. Street Lights is a contemporary musical drama by Joe Drymala featuring a groundbreaking score that uses modern hip hop, R&B, and pop to tell a story in the musical language of today's youth, while creating a bridge to earlier generations by incorporating samples of old civil rights anthems within the modern songs and beats.

Nederlander Worldwide Productions and The Eastern Shanghai Cultural Film and Television Group have partnered to present the China on Broadway production of 'Soul of Shaolin,' a new Chinese martial arts spectacle. The production began previews on Tuesday, January 13 and opened on Thursday, January 15 at Broadway's Marquis Theatre. BroadwayWorld's cameras captured the high flying opening night celebration. 'Soul of Shaolin' will play a limited engagement of 24 performances in celebration of the Lunar New Year* - the year of the Ox. Direct from appearances in Sydney, Australia; Macau, People's Republic of China; and at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, comes a theatrical event that is unparalleled on Broadway. 'Soul of Shaolin' tells the story of a boy named Hui Guang who is separated from his mother by war. Hui Guang is found and taken in by the legendary monks of the Shaolin temple and raised among them. As he becomes a man, Hui Gang becomes an accomplished master of Shaolin Kung Fu and embarks on a spectacular journey of self-discovery. 'Soul of Shaolin' marks the first time a production from the People's Republic of China has appeared on Broadway.

Crunch Presents Broadway Inspired 'SOUL OF SHAOLIN' Class

'Soul of Shaolin,' the new Chinese martial arts spectacular, and Crunch have partnered to present an exclusive fitness class based on the Broadway show. The class will offer Crunch members the chance to learn Shaolin Kung Fu techniques that are used in the upcoming production. The class will be offered at the gym's 38th Street location (144 West 38th Street) starting tomorrow, January 9 at 5:30 PM. Classes will be offered every Friday through January 23.
