Andre De Shields to Direct Crossroads Theatre's AINT MISBEHAVIN

This summer is a busy one for award-winning Broadway star André De Shields. He has been nominated as 'Best Leading Actor' for his title role in Charles Smith's new play The Gospel According to James, produced last Spring at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater in Chicago, Dennis Zacek, Artistic Director. Based on the doubling lynching depicted in the infamous Lawrence Beitler photograph, this drama involves the fictional meeting between a witness and a survivor of that seminal moment in Indiana history. The play garnered four Black Theater Alliance Award nods, including Best Direction for director, Chuck Smith and Best Writing for playwright, Charles Smith. The play was originally commissioned by and experienced its world premiere at The Indiana Repertory Theatre in Indianapolis.

The Tony Award® winning Crossroads Theatre Company presents the annual Genesis Festival of New Plays and Voices May 27-29, 2011. The festival creates a haven for the audience, actors, director and playwright to share in the experience of the creative process, offering audience members an insider's view of the development of new work for the stage. Professional readings take place in the intimate setting of the fourth-floor studio of the Crossroads Theatre, followed by a lively discussion among artists and audience members. A wine and cheese reception afterward provides an additional opportunity to chat with the artists.

Casting Announced for Final Play Lab of 2010-11 Season

CENTERSTAGE announces casting for the final Play Lab reading of the season, Jerome Hairston's Knife on Bone. The reading, which closes the 2010-11 Season, is May 26-29 and will be directed by Dwight R.B. Cook.

Graduate students pursuing their MFA in performance or design work right along professional actors, designer and directors to hone their crafts in a practical format. The Unicorn gains access to talented, young artists before they even start out their careers. Many students who have worked here as students, have since been hired back as professionals when they graduate.

A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry's landmark drama about the struggles and triumphs of an African American family in the 1950s, makes its first appearance on the stage of the Crossroads Theatre Company in a new production, April 14 through May 1.
