Poetic Theater Productions (Jeremy Karafin and Alex Mallory, Co-Artistic Directors) kicks off its 5th season August 18-20 at Wild Project with Conscious Language: conversation and performance on the power of the spoken word curated by emcee/playwright muMs (HBO's 'Oz', upcoming "A Sucker Emcee" at LAByrinth Theater Company) and featuring poet/musician Saul Williams (Broadway's Holler If Ya Hear Me, "Slam"), playwrights Jose Rivera (Marisol, "The Motorcycle Diaries") and Dominique Morisseau (Detroit 67, Sunset Baby), poet/recording artist Ursula Rucker (She Said, Ruckus Soundsysdom, 3 albums with The Roots), director/producer Kamilah Forbes (Sunset Baby, 'Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry', Hip Hop Theatre Festival) and more. Speaking about his impulse to create Conscious Language, muMs says 'My hope is that this festival will be the beginning of an important discussion about the responsibility we have as artists to our community'. Stable Cable Lab Co. and Vera Khodasevich announce the cast and creative team for the workshop production of Accidents Waiting to Happen, a play by Jonathan Libman, directed by Padraic Lillis. Invited presentations for Accidents Waiting to Happen will begin on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at IRT Theater and are scheduled to run through Sunday, June 8, 2014. The results of the workshop production - including the actors' experience with the work, the aesthetics of the director and designers, and the audience's feedback - will be invaluable to the development of this new play. This project was developed, in part, through Kori Rushton and the IRT 3B Development Series.
Next month TCG Publications will release 100 (Monologues), a collection of all of award-winning writer-actor Eric Bogosian's monologues from the series of acclaimed solo shows he wrote and starred in off-Broadway beginning in the mid '80's. The publication will include monologues by the three-time Obie Award and Drama Desk winner from his solo shows Drinking in America; Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll; Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead, Wake Up and Smell The Coffee, FunHouse and Men Inside, as well as selections from his play Talk Radio
