Birmingham Hippodrome has announced details of a spectacular new season of outstanding live entertainment. The 2013/14 season features a host of new productions, an outdoor event transforming the Southside district, and the return of a much-loved favourite with priority booking for Hippodrome Friends.

This brand new theatre production will tour the UK in 2013 opening at Venue Cymru in Llandudno in January before arriving at Birmingham Hippodrome from today 14 - Saturday 18 May 2013.

According to the Daily Mail, Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky and Hutch) will play 'Tevye' in Fiddler on the Roof at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, directed by Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.

The National Theatre's award-winning production of War Horse last night (25 October 2012) celebrated its fifth anniversary in London with a special performance at the New London Theatre, Drury Lane. Former cast members and the show's creative team gathered with VIPs and friends to celebrate five years on the London stage.

The next of the monthly Gigging For It cabarets at Freedom, Soho, on June 3, features the brand new original songs of Joe Sterling and Christopher J. Orton.

Tom Chambers and Summer Strallen take the lead roles of Jerry Travers and Dale Tremont in Top Hat which opened on Wednesday 9th May at the Aldwych Theatre in the West End where the show is currently booking until 26 January 2013. Thea Sharrock is to direct The Bodyguard, a new musical opening at the Adelphi Theatre in Autumn 2012 based on the Warner Bros. film of the same name with screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan. Starring Heather Headley as Rachel Marron and Lloyd Owen as Frank Farmer in the roles made famous on film by the late Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, tickets for The Bodyguard go on sale today (1 May 2012) taking bookings until 27 April 2013 for the production's first booking period. Previews begin on 6 November 2012, twenty years after the release of the Oscar nominated film. Opening night is 5 December.

The New Actors Company in association with Neil McPherson for the Finborough Theatre presents THE GRAND DUKE. The Finborough Theatre's 'Celebrating British Music Theatre' series continues with the first fully staged professional UK production of Gilbert and Sullivan's final operetta, The Grand Duke, since the original 1896 production. It opens at the Finborough Theatre for a strictly limited run of six Sundays and Mondays from Sunday, 1 April 2012.

We've all got a little excited recently about the new British musical theatre composers edging through into the mainstream, with Stiles and Drewe's Betty Blue Eyes reaching the West End last year, and Grant Olding, Michael Bruce and Dougal Irvine all getting tons of critical acclaim. BWW:UK's own Robert Gould is the book writer and lyricist for new show My Land's Shore, which is about to have its cast recording released.

Chess is nearing the end of its 6 week pre-West End run at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre, and today BWW speaks with James Fox, who plays Freddy in the production. James talks to us about the challenges working on such a vocally demanding show, preparation for singing Pity the Child and director Craig Revel Horwood.

Chess opened on Wednesday, September 28th in Toronto after enjoying a sold-out tour in the UK. This lavish new production comes direct from England, and will play a limited engagement in Toronto before heading to London's West End. Directed by Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel Horwood and featuring a cast of some of the UK's most talented stage actors, the production is a feast for the eyes and ears.
