American ragtime and early jazz bandleader, arranger, and composer, James Reese Europe, will be celebrated at a World War I Centennial Tribute Concert on June 8, 2018 at Symphony Space. The evening will be presented by New York Jazzharmonic Traditional Jazz Sextet under the baton of Ron Wasserman and vocalist Aubrey Barnes. Presented in collaboration with the United States World War I Centennial Commission and the New York Veteran's Alliance.

The event will be hosted by Kelvin Moon Loh and Vasthy Mompoint, stars from Broadway's new hit, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, The Broadway Musical. The Shubert Foundation / MTI Broadway Junior partnership is a groundbreaking musical theatre mentorship program that helps public schools affect school culture change through building sustainable theatre education programs. Hundreds of participating students will share musical numbers from their fully produced school shows at the Finale. For many, their first musical theatre experience performing will be on Broadway.

Actor Peter Gerald joins the stellar international cast of acclaimed show - Cafe Society Swing. The production tells the story of the first racially-desegregated jazz club in New York - Cafe Society, which opened in Greenwich Village 80 years ago, in December 1938. It will play the historic Theatre Royal Stratford East from Tuesday 5 June to Saturday 16 June.

Stephen Colbert has been a long-time supporter and fan of Lake Street Dive, and last night on Monday, May 7, the band performed the single 'Good Kisser' from their new album Free Yourself Up,which was released on Nonesuch Records Friday, May 4. See the performance here. Rolling Stone posted the performance earlier today, with Jeff Gage stating that 'fleshed out by the keys work of the Boston ensemble's newest full-time member Akie Bermiss, the band's tongue-in-cheek breakup tune features a smoldering groove that eventually catches full flame.'

Lake Street Dive releases its new album Free Yourself Up on Nonesuch Records today, Friday, May 4, featuring the singles 'Good Kisser' and 'I Can Change'. To celebrate release day, the band also shares the fun new music video for 'Good Kisser', directed by Bianca Giaever, where people of all ages and walks of life spread the news of the protagonist's stellar kissing abilities. Schimmel Center To Present Anna Deavere Smith In Notes From The Field, 6/1 & 6/2

Schimmel Center will present Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Anna Deavere Smith's Obie Award-winning solo performance, Notes From the Field, for one weekend only on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in preparation for a two week run at the Royal Court in London. The production is directed by Leonard Foglia and features original music composed and performed by bassist Marcus Shelby who joins Ms. Smith on stage.

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Xian Zhang close the 2017–18 season with a blockbuster program featuring works by Brahms, Mahler and Bernstein, June 7–10 in Newark and Red Bank. Lauded violinist Gil Shaham returns to New Jersey for Brahms' Violin Concerto. In her first NJSO performances of Mahler's work, Zhang conducts the composer's monumental First Symphony.

Napa Valley Museum Yountville Announces The Opening Of LOWELL HERRERO: ORIGINS OF AN ORIGINAL

On the 10th anniversary of the Museum's last Herrero exhibit, the Napa Valley Museum Yountville will present "Lowell Herrero: Origins of an Original," a comprehensive exhibition depicting the life, work, and influences of the Napa Valley's iconic "Lavender Man" artist. The exhibit is organized by Herrero's widow and business partner Janet Herrero, and curated by noted St. Helena artist Jennifer Garden. The Opening Reception will be on Saturday June 2 at 5:00 pm, and is free for Museum members; $20 for Non-Members.

NJSO Announces Auditions For Newark Voices

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will hold auditions in May for Newark Voices-a project-based community choir formed to engage talented singers and experienced choral musicians from the Greater Newark community. Newark Voices will partner with the Montclair State University Chorale to perform Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the NJSO and Music Director Xian Zhang at two Newark performances for the 2018-19 season's opening weekend in October.

PREZ - The Lester Young Story Extends at Write Act Rep Through 6/29

WRITE ACT REP announces PREZ The Lester Young Story, a solo show written by playwright Willard Manus, continues in Los Angeles, as part of a Spring and Summer Festival Series at Write Act Rep's Brickhouse Theatre called THREE BY WILL IN REP.  The Series includes two World Premiere's along with the extension of the acclaimed  PREZ, which chronicles the unique life of jazzman Lester Young, featuring Leslie A. Jones.  The intimate drama is produced by John Lant and Tamra Pica, and will be directed by Daniel E. Keough.  The show is moving to a new night and extending, beginning April 27th 2018, through June 29, 2018.  All performances for PREZ will now be on FRIDAYS at 8PM, through as part of the three production Series, 'THREE BY WILL IN REP'.
