PREZ - The Lester Young Story Extends at Write Act Rep Through 6/29 WRITE ACT REP announces PREZ The Lester Young Story, a solo show written by playwright Willard Manus, continues in Los Angeles, as part of a Spring and Summer Festival Series at Write Act Rep's Brickhouse Theatre called THREE BY WILL IN REP. The Series includes two World Premiere's along with the extension of the acclaimed PREZ, which chronicles the unique life of jazzman Lester Young, featuring Leslie A. Jones. The intimate drama is produced by John Lant and Tamra Pica, and will be directed by Daniel E. Keough. The show is moving to a new night and extending, beginning April 27th 2018, through June 29, 2018. All performances for PREZ will now be on FRIDAYS at 8PM, through as part of the three production Series, "THREE BY WILL IN REP".

 

 

ABOUT THE SHOW

 

PREZ had its world premiere in Feb. 2016 at Chromolume Theatrein Culver City, where it ran for two months and was hailed by critics and audiences alike. The play, which is set in a 1959 hotel room in Paris, paints an intimate portrait of Lester Young, a unique jazzman whose warm, lyrical style brought him fame, first with the Count Basie band, then with the likes of Nat 'King' Cole, Oscar Peterson, Teddy Wilson, and his best friend and alter ego, Billie Holiday.

 

Leslie A. Jones is an actor/musician who has appeared in two previous plays by Willard Manus: BRIDGE and BIRD LIVES! He won an NAACP Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Randall in Matthew Witten's "Washington Square Moves." He recurred on TV's "Beverly Hills, 90210" and has appeared in numerous independent films. His band, "Right Hand Rule," can be heard on iTunes,com, Amazon.com and cdbaby.com. He plays saxophone, flute, percussion, and sings as well.

 

Willard Manus has had numerous plays produced in L.A. and elsewhere. FRANK AND AVA won a best-play award at the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival and has been turned into a feature film.

 

PREZ is running at the Brickhouse Theatre in repertory, called THREE BY WILL IN REPwith two new plays by Manus, THEIR FINEST HOUR: CHURCHILL AND MURROW, along with the recently successful THE WICKED, WICKED Mae West
