Nominations in 26 competitive categories for the American Theatre Wing's 65th Annual Antoinette Perry 'Tony' Awards were announced May 3, 2011 by Tony Award winning actor Matthew Broderick and Tony Award winning actress Anika Noni Rose, at the Tony Award Nominations Announcement sponsored by IBM. The nominees were selected by an independent committee of 22 theatre professionals appointed by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. The 2011 Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. Yesterday, a cocktail reception was held to honor the nominees before the big night. Donna Hanover and Colman Domingo hosted a luncheon yesterday, June 9 at the National Arts Club. A benefit for the Vineyard Theatre's artistic and education programs, playwright Branden Jacobs Jenkins was presented with the Vineyard Theatre's 4th annual Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, given each year to a gifted emerging playwright. 8 of the 2011 Tony Award nominees visited the Empire State Building's world famous Observatory including Colman Domingo (The Scottsboro Boys, 'Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical'), Nikki M. James (The Book of Mormon, 'Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical'), Judith Light (Lombardi, 'Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play'), Patina Miller (Sister Act, 'Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical'), Arian Moayed (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play'), Rory O'Malley (The Book of Mormon, 'Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical'), Lily Rabe (Merchant of Venice, 'Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play') and Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon, 'Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical').

Broadway Beat brings you an interview with Colman Domingo and Forrest McClendon, Best Featured Actor in a Musical nominees for The Scottsboro Boys. Prior to The Scottsboro Boys, Domingo starred starred as Mister Franklin/Venus of Berlin in Passing Strange, for which received an Obie Award. He reprised his roles in the film version of Passing Strange directed by Spike Lee, which made its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. In 2010, Domingo's self-penned play 'A Boy and His Soul' premiered Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theater, for which he won a GLAAD and a Lucille Lortel Award and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and a Drama League Award. He has also starred as Billy Flynn in Chicago. McClendon, who made his Broadway debut in The Scottsboro Boys, has appeared off-Broadway in Faith Journey. He also appeared as CC White in a 2005 Prince Music Theatre revival of Dreamgirls: The Musical in Philadelphia. His most recent theatrical project is a regional production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris at the Two Rivers Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey.

The Developmental Lab Production of NOW.HERE.THIS. - the newest work from the creators and cast of the legendary musical [title of show], will begin performances on Saturday, June 4 at the Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street), with a special performance to benefit the non-profit theatre company on Sunday, June 19th at 7:00pm.

The Developmental Lab Production of NOW.HERE.THIS. - the newest work from the creators and cast of the legendary musical [title of show] which begins performances on Saturday, June 4 at the Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) - will have a special performance to benefit the non-profit theatre company on Sunday, June 19th at 7:00pm followed by an afterparty with the artists. The special performance has been announced today by Douglas Aibel, Artistic Director of The Vineyard, where [title of show] had its Off-Broadway debut in 2006 prior to its Broadway engagement in 2008.
