MASTERWORKS BROADWAY has just announced the signing of the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Kinky Boots. Produced by Cyndi Lauper, William Wittman and Stephen Oremus, the album will be recorded on March 14, 15 and 25 in anticipation of a May 2013 release.
Kinky Boots creators Harvey Fierstein (book) and Cyndi Lauper (music & lyrics) will sit down with New York Times theater reporter Patrick Healy as part of a New York Times TimesTalks on Monday, March 18th at 6:30 PM E.T. at TheTimesCenter (242 West 41st Street). The pair will discuss their collaborative experience on the hotly anticipated new musical; the evening will also include a performance by Kinky Boots stars Stark Sands and Billy Porter. For those not in the room, the conversation and performances will be streamed lived on the Web at www.Livestream.com/NYTimes.

There's a lot of love in the Kinky Boots rehearsal room at New 42nd Street Studios these days... so one of our fabulous, so-on-top-of-it-nothing-gets-by-him Stage Managers Thomas Recktenwald (thomas84nyc on Instagram) did a photo-shoot. We love photo shoots, Twitter and Instagram almost as much as we love shoes at Kinky Boots. Here are some of my favourites (and yes, I decided to use the British spelling of the word 'favourites' because our show takes place in the North of England and I am the proud owner of a British passport. Kate Middleton and I might as well be besties.)
There comes a moment late in the second act of South Pacific when Nellie Forbush (played by the luminous Katie Reid), after hearing the disembodied voice of Emile Debecque (the dashing Marcelo Guzzo) over a two-way radio relaying some heartbreaking news-and confirming to her that he has sacrificed all he holds dear in order to help Allied forces overcome Japanese forces-when she runs on the beach, beseeching Emile to "come back" so that she may admit her foolhardy response to him before he left on that heroic mission. She completes her heartrending plea for his safe return with a lovely reprise, however brief, of Rodgers and Hammerstein's stunning "Some Enchanted Evening."
