Barter Theatre and Symphony of the Mountains to Stage LES MISERABLES, 8/16-17

Thousands upon thousands of people have seen "Les Miserables" this past year through the movie release last winter or the many regional theatre productions. It's officially the world's longest running musical, and "Les Mis" has been seen by over 65 million people in 42 countries. But how many have seen it with a full symphony orchestra? Not many.

BWW Reviews: Aurora's Record-Breaking LES MISERABLES Is a Powerful, Breath-Taking Hit

There is something special happening on stage at the Aurora Theatre. The Aurora Theatre production is the most flawless version of 'Les Miserables' that I have ever seen, and I've seen my share. I filled pages upon pages with notes about the exciting and insightful choices made by the always genius director Justin Anderson and his near-perfect cast.

BWW Exclusive: Les Miserables at The MUNY Summer 2013 Scrapbook!

It was theatre magic at its best: rain lightly came down on closing night as the entire cast of LES MISERABLES at The Muny belted out 'The Epilogue' one more time. The audience lept to their feet as the final notes hung in the air. All week long, The Muny experienced a complete standing ovation before the curtain call began, something that Muny goers said hasn't happened in at least 35 years. The cast of LES MISERABLES experienced the audience's appreciation all week long and their final performance was no exception.

BWW Reviews: The Muny's Captivating Production of LES MISERABLES

Victor Hugo's novel, LES MISERABLES, was re-imagined in the early 1980's as a very successful musical (lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer (adapted from the French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel) and score by Claude-Michel Schonberg)) that has continued to captivate audiences. Although I wasn't especially fond of the touring show that passed through last year, The Muny's current production is a revelation. The scope of this work is an ideal match for The Muny's expansive stage, and I highly recommend this terrific presentation.
