The Joffrey Ballet presents the Midwest premiere of Ronald Hynd's The Merry Widow for its Winter program in the current 2010-2011 Stars season. Hynd originally choreographed the three-act story ballet for The Australian Ballet in 1975, set to an adaptation of Franz Lehár's 1905 romantic operetta The Merry Widow. This evening-length work, also a company premiere, will be performed at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 East Congress Parkway, February 16 - 27, 2011.

New CD from Sean Smith Due For Release March 1st

For bassist/composer Sean Smith, his forthcoming CD 'Trust' opens an exciting new chapter in his musical life. It's his third album as a leader but his first since 2001 and the debut release for his own imprint, Smithereen Records. It features his well-traveled quartet of guitarist John Hart, saxophonist John Ellis, and drummer Russell Meissner, exploring his original compositions. And it marks a rededication to his music following his recovery from a career-threatening incident in 2007.

Reissa, one of the world's most important interpreters of Yiddish song, will perform in her only New York City appearance this year at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. Her band of musical luminaries is led by Frank London of the Klezmatics and features Marty Confurius on the upright bass; Rex Benincasa on percussion and drums; slide trombone player Brian Drye; and pianist and accordion player Patrick Farrell.
