Music Institute of Chicago Sets Billy Strayhorn Festival for 10/26-28

Honoring the work and legacy of one of the great jazz composers and collaborators, the Music Institute of Chicago presents a Billy Strayhorn Festival October 26-28. The festival, presented in partnership with Billy Strayhorn Songs Inc., a family corporation of the Strayhorn heirs, includes two star-studded concerts featuring trumpet great Terell Stafford and a screening of the award-winning film Billy Strayhorn: Lush Life followed by a panel discussion. The festival takes place at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston.

Rooftop 760 Presents A MUSICAL JOURNEY FROM JAZZ TO HIP HOP, 8/7

On Tuesday August 7th, 2012 Global Rhythm Group and Urban Lifestyle Media in conjunction with Music Choice will bring a fusion of Hip Hop and Jazz to Rooftop760 (Copacabana's rooftop)! Igmar Thomas is an expert at linking these two genres together. He is not only a composer but an arranger, bandleader and of course a remarkable trumpet player! Thomas will be sharing his talent on stage along with The Cypher featuring the Curtis Brothers. Additional good beats will be provided by BET'S very own 'Master of the Mix' DJ Mell Starr.

Gwen Terry, The Duke Ellington Society, International Women in Jazz, Jazz Foundation of America and Saint Peter's Church - Jazz Ministry are partnering to produce a fundraiser for Clark Terry on Monday, April 23 at 7 PM at Saint Peter's Church, 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street, New York City.

Melba Moore & Lillias White to Feature in WOMEN OF EXCELLENCE IN THE ARTS Discussion 3/26

The Riverside Theatre will host the 3rd annual Women's History Month celebration coined, "An Evening with Women of Excellence in the Arts," on Monday, March 26th at 6pm. Five women will share an intimate discussion about their personal journeys in the industry. The esteemed panel will be moderated by Image Activist and Writer Michaela Angela Davis and will include, Lillias White, Melba Moore, Beverly Bond, Malikha Mallette, and Winsome Sinclair. The theatre is located in the historic Riverside Church at 91 Claremont Ave. (bet. 120th & 122nd St.), Morningside Heights. The event will be followed by a V.I.P reception sponsored by Given Liqueur. Sponsors include City College, Ashley Battle of the WNBA, Carol's Daughter, Iman Cosmetics , Hue-Man Bookstore and Completely Bare.

At the 2:30pm show, Pizzarelli will be joined by his wife, Broadway actress Jessica Molaskey, to present their acclaimed Cafe Carlyle show When Worlds Collide, a portrait of their marriage. At 5pm, Pizzarelli and his quartet will present his award-winning Duke Ellington tribute Rockin' in Rhythm. The concerts take place in the historic Venetian Room of The Fairmont San Francisco (950 Mason Street) Sunday, February 26, 2012. Lionel Loueke Trio and Renee Rosnes Quartet Come to the Miller in November

New York's jazz heart wasn't always located downtown. Once it was found on 52nd Street and before that on 125th, and for many decades its most powerful radio voice has been WKCR-FM on the campus of Columbia University. Just a few yards away, jazz finds an uptown home at Columbia's Miller Theatre. This season, Melissa Smey has programmed groups from the top of her wish list in a Jazz series that begins with the inventive Lionel Loueke Trio and the Renee Rosnes Quartet.

Jazz Saxophonist Anthony Nelson to Perform at Twins Jazz Club, 10/14-15

Anthony Nelson will perform on Fri., Oct. 14 & Sat., Oct. 15 with 9pm & 11pm sets. He will be joined by Larry Willis (10/14) on the piano and Allyn Johnson (10/15) on the piano, as well as Steve Novosel on the bass and Howard 'Kingfish' Franklin on the drums.
