The Celebrity Series of Boston announces its 2022/23 season today, marking 84 years of bringing touring and local performing artists to Boston.

As part of its free virtual salon series, Wingspace Theatrical Design will present a conversation on Thursday, April 28 at 8:00pm ET with Jasmine Arielle Barnes, Noelle Deutsch, Priti Gandhi, Lila Palmer, Nehemiah Rolle, and Vita Tzykun. Moderated by Anna Driftmier, this conversation will focus on reimagining opera for the next generation.

Critically acclaimed composer and violinist/violist Bryan Senti is set for the release of his new record Manu. Manu is the first crossover album for the classically trained Senti, a first-generation Cuban/Mexican- and Colombian-American, combining western neo-classical traditions with the Latin American folk music his parents grew up with.

The San Francisco–based Kronos Quartet/Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA) and SFJAZZ are pleased to present the Bay Area premiere of At War With Ourselves - 400 Years of You, an evening-length song cycle exploring race relations and movements for social justice, civil rights, and resistance. At War With Ourselves will have two San Francisco performances at SFJAZZ Center, May 7-8, 2022.

The inspiring girl power musical, Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World, produced by Kenny Wax Family Entertainment in association with MAST Mayflower Studios, will open at Theatre Royal Stratford East from 15 June to 17 July (Press Performance Tuesday 21 June 2022).

New York Theatre Workshop and National Black Theatre announced today casting, dates and ticket information for Dreaming Zenzile, based on the life of Miriam Makeba, by Grammy-nominated Vocalist/Composer Somi Kakoma directed by Obie Award winner, NYTW Usual Suspect & former NYTW 2050 Artistic Fellow Lileana Blain-Cruz.

Today, celebrated Armenian American sisters Ani (cello) and Marta (piano) Aznavoorian release their debut duo album, Gems from Armenia, on Cedille Records. The Chicago-based Aznavoorian Duo celebrates the sounds of their ancestral homeland through a panoramic survey of Armenian classical music, including works by composers Komitas Vartabed, Aram Khachaturian, Arno Babajanian, and Avet Terterian; contemporary Armenian composers Serouj Kradjian, Alexander Arutiunian, and Vache Sharafyan; and the world premiere recording of a new piece by Peter Boyer. The duo will perform a recital featuring works from the album on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 3:00pm at Nichols Hall at the Music Institute of Chicago in Evanston.

American Lyric Theater (ALT) announced today InsightALT: Opera in Eden, a performance featuring three new one-act operas on themes of temptation developed by Resident Artists in the company’s nationally acclaimed Composer Librettist Development Program. ALT’s current Resident Artists (Composers Jasmine Barnes, Johanny Navarro, and Alex Weiser; and Librettists Joshua Banbury, Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, and Marcus Yi) were selected from over 200 applicants to join the CLDP this season. Opera in Eden, which is the culminating event of the first year of these artists’ residency, will take place at National Sawdust in Brooklyn on Tuesday, May 17th, 2022 at 7:00pm.

On Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 3:00pm CT, the Music Institute of Chicago will present The Aznavoorian Duo (Marta Aznavoorian, piano and Ani Aznavoorian, cello) in concert at Nichols Concert Hall.

The Tony Award-winning Alley Theatre and Artistic Director Rob Melrose has announced the 2022-23 season which includes six world premieres including three world premiere plays, two world premiere adaptations, and one world premiere musical. The 76th season also marks the return of the Summer Chills series, after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

Lys – Norwegian for “Light” – presents music by 13 female composers, from Hildegard of Bingen to Hildur Guðnadóttir, combining specially commissioned works with new arrangements of existing pieces.

One of the foremost classical Indian dance companies returns to The Soraya with the world premiere production of Fires of Varanasi: Dance of the Eternal Pilgrim co-commissioned by The Soraya and The Kennedy Center.  

The previously unrecorded Drone Mass was described by its composer, the late Jóhann Jóhannsson, as “a contemporary oratorio.” Written for voices, string quartet and electronics, it was commissioned and premiered by the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, aka ACME, who toured and recorded with Jóhannsson for almost ten years.

The Broad Stage presents an evening with The Takács Quartet, winners of the Grammy Award, Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2021, Chamber category, and Presto Music Classical Recording Award 2021, make their Broad Stage debut on Saturday, March 19 at 7:30PM on the Main Stage.  

The exciting new cast has been announced for the 2022 UK tour of inspiring girl power musical Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World.  This empowering stage adaptation is brought to life by an incredible all-female led cast and creative team, based on the book of the same name by Suffragette descendant Kate Pankhurst.
