ROAR, standing for "Rock On American Resurrection," roared to life Thursday at its opening night at the Crown City Theatre Company in North Hollywood. In contrast to the intimate, quaint setting of a lobby no larger than my living room and a house whose maximum capacity has to be close to 100, ROAR made me (and probably the rest of the audience) feel like I was at a protest concert during the '60s (Act I) and '80s (Act II).

Legendary musician Chuck Berry has passed away at age 90. According to ABC News, a medical emergency was called in this afternoon in Missouri, and the singer was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

A Communication Forum, sponsored by the Westcoast Black Theatre titled WBTT Voices, recently spotlighted Brenda Watty, fifteen-year member of The Marvelettes. Watty spent five years in the 60's girl group, The Toys, singing lead vocals on the hit, Lovers Concerto. As a member of Musique she scored another hit titled, Push Push in the Bush. Her management company, Banner Talent, then secured an audition for her as lead vocalist with the Marvelettes, and for the next 15 years she stayed and toured with the group.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. To date, the Museum has collected more than 36,000 artifacts and nearly 100,000 individuals have become charter members. The Museum opened to the public on September 24, 2016, as the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution.
