The Times reports that City Opera's board voted to start bankruptcy proceedings next week if it fails to raise $7 million by Monday. The opera will most likely not meet that goal after only raising about $1.5 million since it first made an urgent appeal for the $7 million this month.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association has announced three conductors who will participate in the 2013/14 Dudamel Fellowship Program - Daniel Cohen, BenGernon, and Antonio Mendez. Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, together with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, created the Dudamel Fellowship Program in 2009 to provide a unique opportunity for promising young conductors from around the world to develop their craft and enrich their musical experience through personal mentorship and participation in the LA Phil's orchestral, education and community programs.

Lyric Opera of Kansas City Artistic Director Ward Holmquist today announced a change in two conductors for two productions of the 2013-14 season. The September 21-29 production of Bellini's The Capulets and the Montagues will now be conducted by Lyric Opera of Kansas City Artistic Director Ward Holmquist. Maestro Leonardo Vordoni will make his company debut leading a production in the 2014-15 season to be announced at a later date. The November 9-17 production of Mozart's The Magic Flute will now be conducted by Gary Thor Wedow. Ward Holmquist had been scheduled to conduct that production.
Gotham Chamber Opera together with Opera Philadelphia and Music-Theatre Group is proud to announce the third track in the nation's first comprehensive, operatic Composer In Residence program. Funded initially by a $1.4 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the program has received an additional $330,000 from the foundation to provide a third professional development path for one of today's most promising opera composers, selected on a competitive basis. New York City Center's 2013-14 season features an exciting lineup of dance, theater and music that begins with the 10th anniversary celebration of City Center's acclaimed Fall for Dance Festival. The Festival kicks off with two free dance performances at the Public Theater's Delacorte Theater in Central Park and continues at City Center with performances by 20 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world. Following Fall for Dance, Matthew Bourne's New Adventures returns to New York City Center to present the New York premiere of Sleeping Beauty; Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis join forces on the world premiere of A Bed and A Chair: A New York Love Story, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, City Center's Principal Dance Company, returns for a month-long engagement in December.

The Canadian Opera Company has closed another successful opera season by recording an average attendance of 90% for 2012/2013. A total of 114,133 patrons attended the 61 performances of the company's seven mainstage productions this season in the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts: Verdi's Il Trovatore, Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus, Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Richard Strauss's Salome and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites.

The Broad Stage and L.A. Opera have joined forces to co-produce the world premiere of Dulce Rosa, a fully-staged, two-act opera by composer Lee Holdridge and librettist Richard Sparks, based on the Isabel Allende short story, Una Venganza ("An Act of Vengeance").
New York City Opera's production of Jacques Offenbach's LA PERICHOLE feels right at home at City Center, home of the 'Encores!' series, which reintroduces audiences to lesser known Broadway musicals that failed or went out of fashion despite wonderful scores. PERICHOLE doesn't have a care in the world in Christopher Alden's boisterous vision. It's a cheerful reminder of a musical style that has unjustifiably fallen by the wayside.
