AMNH Reopens Theodore Roosevelt Memorial and Hall of North American Mammals, 10/27

After three years and an extensive $40 million renovation, the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial at the American Museum of Natural History will reopen to the public with a day of celebration on October 27, 2012. The Hall of North American Mammals will reopen as the Jill and Lewis Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals, with stunningly restored dioramas depicting wilderness areas and wildlife that Roosevelt's policies have helped to preserve.

The stars came out on Thursday as The Public Theater celebrated the completion of the $40 million revitalization of its downtown home at Astor Place with a special rededication ceremony. The event featured the "throwing out of the first lines" of Shakespeare by city officials and artists with ties to The Public, followed by a special performance from the cast of Hair, which had its world premiere at The Public when it opened in 1967.

New York City Department for the Aging Issues Call for Artists for SPARC: SENIORS PARTNERING WITH ARTISTS CITYWIDE

New York City Department for the Aging Commissioner Lilliam Barrios-Paoli and Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate D. Levin today announced that the Department for the Aging (DFTA) will provide $200,000 in funding to support a second year of SPARC: Seniors Partnering with Artists Citywide, a community arts engagement program that places artists in residence at senior centers across the five boroughs. The new funding will allow the City to build on the success of the 2012 SPARC program, which was supported, in part, by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. During the 2012 program, 50 artists delivered more than 2,000 contact hours of arts programming to hundreds of senior participants at 44 senior centers. Artist residencies for the 2013 SPARC program will take place in select senior centers from January through June 2013.

Earlier today, the Public Theater celebrated the completion of the $40 million revitalization of its downtown home at Astor Place with a special rededication ceremony. The event featured the "throwing out of the first lines" of Shakespeare by city officials and artists with ties to The Public, followed by a special performance from the cast of Hair, which had its world premiere at The Public when it opened in 1967. A physical expression of the Company's core mission of sparking dialogues, fostering artistic development and experimentation and increasing public accessibility, the revitalization project opened up the landmark building to the street and community, and transformed the lobby into a public piazza for artists, students and audiences. HERE and Hip-Hop Theater Festival Present HOW TO BREAK, 10/18-11/4

In their first co-producing endeavor, HERE and the Hip-Hop Theater Festival in association with Collective Consciousness Theatre present the world premiere of How to Break, a new play fueled by human beat-boxing, breaking, popping and locking, linguistic flow and multimedia graffiti art. This production will play a limited engagement at HERE from October 18 - November 4, with Official Opening set for Tuesday, October 23 at 7:00pm.
