This summer, Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop) will produce PIPELINE, a new play by Dominique Morisseau. PIPELINE, which will be directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, will begin performances Thursday, June 15 and open on Monday, July 10 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street).
Kansas City Repertory Theatre continues its 2016-17 season with an exciting addition to the ORIGINKC NEW WORKS FESTIVAL in the spring of 2017. Playwright Christopher Chen breathes new life into the classic tragedy by William Shakespeare as commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Play On! program in which playwrights translate the bard into contemporary English. KC Rep and UMKC's department of theatre team up to support a developmental production of this new play.
The Movement Theatre Company, a Harlem-based nonprofit committed to showcasing emerging artists of color, releases a music video mashup featuring Rihanna's "Work" and "This Is What You Came For." The Movement's Rihanna-inspired holiday music video is a festive ode to all the "work" the company has produced in its almost 10 years of existence and highlights plans for future events in the coming year. The new music video emphasizes the company's commitment to artists of color and support for local Harlem businesses. It also raises awareness about The Movement's #holiDONATE fundraising campaign, which is one part of a larger goal to raise $100,000 by the end of their season. There will be an exclusive viewing party/holiday fundraiser Monday, December 12th from 6:30-9:30pm at Nabe Underground.

Charles, the ship-charterer (Brian D. Coats), is a black man who believes himself superior to all the black people who surround him. He has internalized the view held by Jim Crow America of African Americans as the inferior "other," but in order to entertain that view he necessarily has mentally set himself apart. Anderson's remarks in the program suggest Charles is an exemplar of America's notion of exceptionalism.
Celebrated playwright and teacher Paula Vogel will spend two days at the Playwrights' Center in June as part of the Dramatists Guild Fund's Traveling Masters Program. Following last month's announcement of the incoming Jerome and Many Voices Fellows, the Playwrights' Center is pleased to introduce the 2016-17 McKnight National Residency and Commission recipient, two 2016-17 McKnight Fellows in Playwriting, six new Core Writers and three 2016-17 Core Apprentices. McKnight Theater Artist Fellows will be announced in June.
