Bang on a Can to Set Out on Simultaneous Tours to Europe, China and Mexico, May 2013

This May, Bang on a Can is producing three simultaneous international touring programs: in Europe featuring the renowned Bang on a Can All-Stars; in Beijing, China featuring the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra combined with a Festival Ensemble of musicians culled from its annual Summer Festival at Mass MoCA, and in Mexico featuring its renegade mobile ensemble Asphalt Orchestra.

Elliot Goldenthal Honored by NYFA

The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) has announced that author and co-director of the Acquavella Gallery Michael Findlay, composer Elliot Goldenthal, filmmaker Mira Nair and visual artist Fred Wilson will be inducted into the NYFA Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 23rd at Espace (635 West 42nd Street). The evening begins at 6:30 with a cocktail reception featuring interactive art by past and current NYFA grantees, followed by dinner and remarks from all the honorees. Tickets start at $500 and tables at $5,000; tickets for the Young Patrons After party, which begins at 9:30, are $250. Tickets and tables at all levels can be purchased at www.nyfa.org.

Bang on a Can Presents 2013 People's Commissioning Fund Concert, 3/14

On Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can will present the 2013 Bang on a Can People's Commissioning Fund concert, one of the most anticipated and reliable launching pads for emerging composers in New York and beyond, as part of Kaufman Music Center's Ecstatic Music Festival at Merkin Concert Hall (Kaufman Music Center, 129 W. 67th St.).

PS122 Adds BodyCartography Project to COIL, Now thru 1/17

As part of the eighth edition of the COIL festival and the fourth edition of the American Realness, Performance Space 122 (PS122) and tbspMGMT present the New York premiere of Super Nature, from Minneapolis-based BodyCartography Project and Bessie Award-winning composer and musician Zeena Parkins. Super Nature is a radical, ecological melodrama fraught with animal appetites born from the restless imaginations of the BodyCartography Project's Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad.

MoMA Announces Christian Marclay--The Clock Exhibition

The Museum of Modern Art presents Christian Marclay's groundbreaking video installation The Clock (2010), from December 21, 2012, to January 21, 2013. Winner of the Golden Lion award at the 2011 Venice Biennale, The Clock is a cinematic tour de force that unfolds on the screen in real time through thousands of film excerpts that form a 24-hour montage. Appropriated from the last 100 years of cinema's rich history, the film clips chronicle the hours and minutes of the 24-hour period, often by displaying a watch or clock. From the legendary to the obscure, The Clock incorporates scenes of car chases, board rooms, emergency wards, bank heists, trysts, high noon shootouts, detective dramas, and silent comedies.

Foofwa d’Imobilité's PINA JACKSON IN MERCEMORIAM To Premiere at The Kitchen 3/11

Christian Marclay to Join Bang on a Can All-Stars 4/28

New York-based visual artist and composer Christian Marclay will be onstage with the Bang on a Can All-Stars at Lincoln Center on April 28 for the U.S. premiere of Field Recordings, a major nine-composer multimedia project that uses film, found sound, and archival audio and video (enhanced by conceptual set designer Jim Findlay) to build a bridge between the seen and unseen, the here and the absent, the present and the past.
