Visionary French filmmaker Chris Marker (1921–2012) created vivid film-essays that lace realism with science fiction and lyricism with politics. Changing his name, declining to be photographed or interviewed, Marker was both enigma and legend. His influence extends across art, experimental film and mainstream cinema: his 1962 masterpiece La Jetée was the basis of Terry Gilliam's 1995 Twelve Monkeys.

Film Society of Lincoln Center Presents Ozu and his Afterlives, Now thru 12/12

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today Ozu and his Afterlives, a program honoring the work and legacy of the great Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu (1903 - 1963), running today, December 4 - 12. Timed to the 110th anniversary of Ozu's birth and the 50th anniversary of his death on December 12, 2013, the series will celebrate the legendary filmmaker's work as well as his indelible influence on some of today's most notable directors.

MoMA Announces Film Exhibitions for September 2013

Film Society of Lincoln Center Announces Recipients of Kazuko Trust Scholarship Award

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Kazuko Trust announced today that filmmakers Laida Lertxundi and Michael Robinson will be the first two recipients of the Kazuko Trust Scholarship Award Grants to be presented during the 16th edition of NYFF's Views from the Avant-Garde, the popular yearly touchstone for experimental film around the world.
