The Houston Symphony's October calendar has something for music lovers of all ages and backgrounds. Classical music enthusiasts will have an opportunity to come to both Jones Hall and Sugar Land Baptist Church to see the Symphony's Music Director Designate Andres Orozco-Estrada conduct the concert Midori Plays Mendelssohnfeaturing Japanese American violin superstar Midori on October 17-20. Then, on October 24, 26 and 27, the Symphony's newly appointed Principal Oboist Jonathan Fischer will take the solo spotlight in Mozart and Schumann to perform Mozart's tuneful Oboe Concerto.

Fifty-three of Broadway's brightest and most compassionate stars spent last night sleeping on the streets outside the Covenant House crisis shelter in Manhattan in solidarity with the 300 homeless young people living inside.The first-ever Covenant House Broadway Sleep Out raised over $136,000 to provide food, clothing, shelter, and hope for homeless youth.

Block (Broadway Star), and Capathia Jenkins (Broadway Star), for a new type of fundraising event for Covenant House International. It is called Sleep Out: Broadway Edition, and on August 17th, the committee, along with many others in the NY Theater Community, will be spending an entire night sleeping on the streets of NYC to raise money and awareness for Covenant House's mission. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have also joined the project as honorary chairs.
FROM BROADWAY WITH LOVE: A Benefit Concert for Sandy Hook, which took place on January 28, 2013, at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Connecticut, will be airing on select public television stations throughout the tri-state area. 'From Broadway With Love' was a concert of healing for the Newtown community where composers, musicians and more than 100 stars of Broadway came together with over 300 students from several Newtown dance groups, the Sandy Hook Elementary School 3rd and 4th grades and the Newtown High School Chamber Choir.

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Andrew Levine, Executive Director), in association with Jim Kierstead, as part of its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series, continues its summer schedule with the new musical Unexpected Joy, with Book & Lyrics by Bill Russell and Music by Janet Hood. This past Monday, Frank's pals included Las Vegas and supperclub headliner Clint Holmes and Broadway mainstay Capathia Jenkins. (Holmes has recently been traveling the country singing Wildhorn's songs and praises, and Jenkins made her Broadway debut in the composer's production of The Civil War before starring in Caroline, Or Change and Newsies.)
