Abingdon Theatre Company is set to celebrate its 2015-2016 Season with ABINGDON: REFLECTIONS OF STARLIGHT, its annual benefit gala and dinner, on Monday, October 26 at Espace (635 West 42nd Street in Manhattan). Richard Jay-Alexander, best known for directing Barbra Streisand and other artists in concert, is set to direct the event, which begins at 6:00pm.

After 40 years as a founding artistic leader of Virginia Repertory Theatre (formerly Theatre IV and Barksdale Theatre), Bruce Miller has announced that he will step aside as Artistic Director in July of 2016, "For four decades I've had the best job in the world. It's time to share it with someone new. I look forward to assisting and supporting the new Artistic Director in whatever way I can." Miller will be pursuing new job opportunities at Virginia Rep to lead efforts in development and education.

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Molie?re's clever comedy, Tartuffe, at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street on Friday, February 14 with a preview on Thursday, February 13. The show runs through March 9, 2014. This year marks the 350th anniversary of the first production of this world classic in 1664. Molie?re, often considered the first great playwright of the Enlightenment, used his growing play audience and Tartuffe to exploit the hypocrisy of the church leaders who at the time controlled 20% of the French economy. After debuting for King Louis XIV at Versailles, Tartuffe was banned for six years on the demand of the clergy. The story of Tartuffe, a religious hypocrite, who uses his connections to swindle his generous host, Orgon, out of his wealth, home and wife, has long been considered a comic masterpiece. This production of Tartuffe is part of the Acts of Faith Theatre Festival.

Sixty years ago in 1953, six actors, two children, a dog and two pigs moved into a historic ruin called Hanover Tavern. The transplanted New Yorkers founded Central Virginia's first professional theatre and named the company in memory of a deceased college friend, Barbara Barksdale.
