PlayGround continues its 25th season of its celebrated Monday Night PlayGround staged reading series on Monday, November 26, 8 PM at Berkeley Repertory Theatre's Roda Theatre. The topic for November's round, announced this morning, is "FALL DOWN, GET UP". Members of the 2018-19 PlayGround Writers Company have just four-and-a-half days to generate their original ten-minute plays inspired by the topic. The top six scripts will each receive an hour-and-a-half rehearsal and a professional script-in-hand staged reading at Berkeley Rep on November 26. PlayGround writers in Los Angeles are working simultaneously on the same prompt and their finalists will be presented at Hollywood's Broadwater Mainstage (home of Sacred Fools Theatre Company) on November 12. American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald announced today the recipients of ArtShare, A.C.T.'s community space-sharing initiative, for the 2017-18 season. Created in 2012, the community space-sharing initiative provides free performance space for small and mid-sized companies without permanent performance space, as well as for independent artists, who would benefit from being in residence at one of A.C.T.'s spaces in the Central Market area. These spaces include The Costume Shop (1117 Market St.)-A.C.T.'s 49-seat black-box venue-and The Rueff, a multi-use event and performance space located at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater (1127 Market St.). The 2017-18 season of ArtShare is made possible by generous support from the Kenneth Rainin Foundation and the Zellerbach Family Foundation.
Two years after his Bay Area debut directing Cutting Ball's explosive production of Ubu Roi, Yury Urnov returns this winter to tackle Henrik Ibsen's masterpiece, Hedda Gabler, translated by Paul Walsh. Featured in the title role is Britney Frazier, who last performed at Cutting Ball in Superheroes in 2014. Hedda Gabler opens in previews on January 19 and runs through February 26, 2017. Marin Theatre Company is now booking for its 2014 School Tour of Rapunzel, written by Mike Kenny, directed by Daunielle Rasmussen, MTC's Director of Education, and featuring actors Tristan Cunningham, Britney Frazier and Julianna Rees. Now in its seventh year, MTC's School Tour program brings professional theater productions to Bay Area elementary schools and libraries.
