A sexy cast of beautiful people inhabits Green Day's punk rock opera American Idiot, in a ferocious glory|struck production that opened last weekend at The Vortex. Directors Topher Rhys and Jen Oundjian (who also choreographs) take full advantage of the concert venue space and go for a panoramic experience, moving the action offstage whenever possible. The concept enhances the surround sound feel of the show and if you approach it from a concert mindset it will be easy to go with the flow. In a way, by chopping up the visual space to include playing areas all around the space, it enhances the disconnectedness we see in the characters. Plus, there is a certain kind of bond an audience feels with an actor when he is dripping with sweat and singing his guts out right next to you.

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, El Rey Network and Miramax will kick-off a marathon of their breakout original series, 'From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series,' appropriately beginning Tuesday, May 5th at dusk (6 PM ET) and concluding at dawn (4am ET).
Based on Boris Pasternak's Nobel Prize-winning 20th-century epic Russian masterpiece, Doctor Zhivago is directed by Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys), with a book by Michael Weller (Ragtime), music byLucy Simon (The Secret Garden), lyrics by Michael Korie (Grey Gardens) and Amy Powers (Ella Enchanted), and choreography by Kelly Devine (Rocky). In a record-breaking year for the number of prizes and total cash awarded, Lauren Michelle, of Los Angeles, won the $15,000 First Prize in the finals of the 2015 Lotte Lenya Competition, sponsored by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music and held on April 18, 2015, in Kilbourn Hall of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. Robin Bailey, of London, U.K., and Jordan Davidson, of Philadelphia, N.Y., both won Second Prizes of $10,000, and two Third Prizes of $7,500 each were awarded to Adam Fieldson, of Lincoln, Neb., and Michael Maliakel, of New York.
